PBA Round 3 (Regular Season): SM Beermen defeat Ginebra Kings

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Kings (1-1) in Manila on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Beermen (3-1) 104-93. SM Beermen looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. It was a good game for guard Jaymar Perez (188-1993) who led his team to a victory with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Center June Mar Fajardo (210-1989) contributed with 18 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Forward Jeth Troy Rosario (201-1992) answered with 24 points and 8 rebounds for Ginebra Kings. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Manila: Painters (#7) and Bolts (#4). Painters (2-1) won against visiting Bolts (2-3) 128-116. It was a great evening for center Leonard Santillan (195-1996) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points and 7 rebounds. Gian Mamuyac helped adding 24 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Kier Quinto (188-1994) with 23 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.
Hotshots (4-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed Masters (1-3) in Pasig City 118-99. It was a quality performance for Zavier Lucero who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Kai Ballungay came up with a double-double by scoring 25 points and 15 rebounds for Phoenix in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 3: winless TNT Tropang was beaten by NLEX RW on the road 91-74. Terrafirma Dyip was destroyed by Ginebra Kings on its own court 80-101. North Port was outscored by Blackwater in Caloocan City 120-98. Winless TNT Tropang recorded a loss to FiberXers at home 94-100.
The most impressive performance of 3rd round was 21 points and 12 rebounds by Justine Baltazar of FiberXers.



NLEX RW - TNT Tropang 91-74

No shocking result in a game when Warriors (2-1) beat TNT Tropang (0-2) in Makati City 91-74 on Wednesday. NLEX RW looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Jb Bahio who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Guard Robert Bolick (185-1995) accounted for 13 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals for the winning side. Five Warriors players scored in double figures. Roger Ray Pogoy (189-1992) came up with 12 points and 6 rebounds and forward Kelly Williams (201-1982, college: Oakland) added 11 points respectively for TNT Tropang in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games.

Terrafirma Dyip - Ginebra Kings 80-101

Rather expected game when Terrafirma Dyip (1-3) was smashed by Kings (1-1) in Makati City 101-80 on Wednesday. Ginebra Kings made 17-of-20 free shots (85.0 percent) during the game. Ginebra Kings outrebounded Terrafirma Dyip 59-25 including a 24-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Ginebra Kings looked well-organized offensively handing out 30 assists comparing to just 14 passes made by Terrafirma Dyip's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Ginebra Kings made 7 blocks. It was an exceptional evening for center Japeth Aguilar (206-1987, college: WKU) who led the winners and scored 30 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field). Guard Scottie Thompson (188-1993) accounted for 11 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side. Forward Louie Sangalang (193) came up with 12 points and 6 rebounds and forward CJ Catapusan (191) added 14 points respectively for Terrafirma Dyip in the defeat. There was a surprise result when Bossing (1-2) rolled over North Port (1-2) in Caloocan City 120-98 on Friday. Blackwater looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was an exceptional evening for guard Regile Ilagan (180-1997) who led the winners and scored 17 points and 8 assists. American guard Sedrick Barefield (188-1996, college: Utah) accounted for 20 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Naturalized American guard Joshua Munzon (191-1995, college: CS Los Angeles) came up with 27 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals and forward William Navarro (199-1997) added 24 points and 11 rebounds respectively for North Port in the defeat. Five Blackwater and four North Port players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

Hotshots (4-0) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed Masters (1-3) in Pasig City 118-99. Hotshots made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Manila: Painters (#7) and Bolts (#4). Painters (2-1) won against visiting Bolts (2-3) 128-116. Rain or Shine made 39-of-47 charity shots (83.0 percent) during the game, while Meralco Bolts only scored eighteen points from the stripe. Rain or Shine forced 19 Meralco Bolts turnovers. Strangely Meralco Bolts outrebounded Rain or Shine 51-35 including 17 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Meralco Bolts were plagued by 35 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for center Leonard Santillan (195-1996) who led his team to a victory scoring 27 points and 7 rebounds.
