PBA Round 2 (Regular Season): Leader Rain or Shine lose to NLEX RW

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in PBA. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Painters recorded a loss in Manila on Saturday night. Hosts were defeated by Warriors 109-95. It was a great shooting night for NLEX RW especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 61.1 percentage. The best player for the winners was guard Robert Bolick (185-1995) who had a double-double by scoring 23 points, 7 rebounds and 12 assists. Forward Xyrus Torres (183-2000) chipped in 28 points (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field). Naturalized American swingman Caelan Tiongson (196-1992, college: Biola, CA) produced 24 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Warriors is looking forward to face TNT Tropang in Makati in the next round where they are favorite. Painters' supporters also look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Manila Meralco Bolts.
Another exciting game took place in Manila where Hotshots edged by three points SM Beermen 98-95. American forward Zavier Lucero (198, college: Cal Maritime) orchestrated the victory by scoring 24 points and 7 rebounds. Jerom Lastimosa contributed with 21 points and 5 assists for the winners. Center June Mar Fajardo (210-1989) replied with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 17 rebounds for Beermen. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Hotshots will play against Phoenix in Quezon in the next round and are hoping to win another game. SM Beermen's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Manila to the arena Ginebra Kings.
Very important is a road loss of Bolts against Masters on Sunday night. Visiting Bolts were defeated by Masters in Quezon 109-97. Tyler Tio scored 22 points and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Raymar Jose responded with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 17 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Masters will meet Hotshots in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Bolts' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Manila to the arena Rain or Shine.

Rest of the games of round 2 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
FiberXers lost to undefeated Hotshots in Pasig City 71-83. Meralco Bolts were beaten by SM Beermen at home 98-110. Terrafirma Dyip was destroyed by North Port on the opponent's court 97-75. FiberXers outscored Blackwater in a home game 111-80. Rain or Shine managed to beat North Port on the road 113-96.
The best stats of 2nd round was 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists by Calvin Abueva of Hotshots.



Hotshots - FiberXers 83-71

There was no surprise in Pasig City where FiberXers were defeated by Hotshots 83-71 on Wednesday. Strangely FiberXers outrebounded Hotshots 52-36 including 37 on the defensive glass. Power forward Ian Paul Sangalang (201-1991) scored 18 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Zavier Lucero (198, college: Cal Maritime) chipped in 18 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. Forward Justine Arana (201-1999) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds and Justine Baltazar (208-1997) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points and 13 rebounds. Four FiberXers players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hotshots will meet at home Phoenix in the next round and are hoping to win another game. FiberXers' supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Makati to the arena TNT Tropang.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with Beermen's road victory over Bolts 110-98 on Wednesday. Center June Mar Fajardo (210-1989) had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (on 12-of-15 shooting from the field) to lead the charge for the winners and guard Jaymar Perez (188-1993) chipped in 29 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field) during the contest. Guard Chris Newsome (187-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) responded with 27 points and 7 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and guard Aaron Black (185-1996) scored 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Five Meralco Bolts players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. North Port - Terrafirma Dyip 97-75

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Pasig City where Terrafirma Dyip was rolled over by North Port 97-75 on Saturday. North Port forced 22 Terrafirma Dyip turnovers and had a 36-24 advantage in offensive rebounds. North Port looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Terrafirma Dyip's players. Forward Arvin Tolentino (195-1995) had a double-double by scoring 19 points, 8 rebounds and 12 assists to lead the charge for the winners and forward William Navarro (199-1997) chipped in 18 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Forward CJ Catapusan (191) responded with 16 points and 5 rebounds and forward Kevin Ferrer (194-1993) scored 15 points and 5 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. North Port will meet Blackwater in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Terrafirma Dyip will play against Ginebra Kings and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Rather predictable result in Makati where FiberXers outscored Bossing 111-80 on Sunday. FiberXers dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Bossing's 34 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. FiberXers looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. Forward Justine Arana (201-1999) had a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and Justine Baltazar (208-1997) chipped in 16 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Guard Regile Ilagan (180-1997) responded with 19 points and center Richard Escoto (198-1997) scored 11 points.
