PBA Round 7 (Regular Season): TNT Tropang beat NLEX RW by three after a very close game

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 7 in the PBA took place in Makati. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of much higher ranked NLEX RW (5-2) to seventh ranked TNT Tropang (4-3) 104-101 on Saturday evening. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of NLEX RW. They outrebounded NLEX RW 45-33 including 34 on the defensive glass. 30 personal fouls committed by NLEX RW helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Calvin-John Oftana (195-1996) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 37 points (!!!), 12 rebounds and 6 assists (made all of his twelve free throws !!!). Roger Ray Pogoy (189-1992) contributed with 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Guard Robert Bolick (185-1995) answered with 23 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists (made all of his eleven free throws !!!) for NLEX RW. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. TNT Tropang moved-up to fourth place, which they share with North Port. NLEX RW at the other side keeps the second position with two games lost. TNT Tropang is looking forward to face higher ranked Ginebra Kings (#3) in Manila in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. NLEX RW will have a break next round.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked North Port (4-3) against fourth ranked Ginebra Kings (5-3) on Sunday night. Host North Port was defeated by Ginebra Kings in a tough game in Pasig City 88-95. It was a great evening for naturalized German forward Christian Standhardinger (206-1989, college: Hawaii) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. Ralph Cu helped adding 24 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. At the losing side forward Arvin Tolentino (195-1995) responded with 19 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ginebra Kings moved-up to third place. North Port at the other side dropped to the fourth position with three games lost. They share it with TNT Tropang. Ginebra Kings will play against TNT Tropang (#5) in Makati in the next round. North Port will play on the road against Rain or Shine in Manila and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

It was an exceptional evening for Beau Belga who led the winners and scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Stephen Holt came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 8 rebounds and 13 assists for Terrafirma Dyip in the defeat. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Rain or Shine have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place. Loser Terrafirma Dyip dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Rain or Shine will meet at home higher ranked North Port (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Terrafirma Dyip will have a break next round.

In the last game of round 7 Hotshots beat Phoenix on the road 107-93.



Rain or Shine - Terrafirma Dyip 116-104

The game in Manila was also quite interesting. 5th ranked Terrafirma Dyip (4-5) played at the court of seventh ranked Rain or Shine (4-4). Rain or Shine defeated Terrafirma Dyip 116-104 on Saturday. Rain or Shine looked well-organized offensively handing out 40 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Beau Belga (198-1986) who led the winners and scored 19 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists. Guard Andrei Caracut (178-1996) accounted for 17 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winning side. American Stephen Holt (193-1991, college: SMC) came up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 8 rebounds and 13 assists and Javier Gomez De Liano (195-1998) added 18 points and 10 rebounds respectively for Terrafirma Dyip in the defeat. Five Rain or Shine and four Terrafirma Dyip players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Rain or Shine have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to sixth place. Loser Terrafirma Dyip dropped to the seventh position with five games lost. Rain or Shine will meet at home higher ranked North Port (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Terrafirma Dyip will have a break next round.

Phoenix - Hotshots 93-107

The game between closely ranked teams ended with tenth ranked Hotshots' (3-2) road victory over 11th ranked Phoenix (2-5) in Quezon 107-93 on Sunday. Hotshots dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Phoenix's 32. They outrebounded Phoenix 54-26 including a 20-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for power forward Ian Paul Sangalang (201-1991) who led the winners and scored 23 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Point guard Andy Barroca (176-1988) accounted for 27 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Guard RJ Jazul (180-1986) came up with 21 points and 5 assists and naturalized New Zealand forward Kenneth Tuffin (194-1997) added 17 points respectively for Phoenix in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Hotshots moved-up to eighth place. Loser Phoenix keeps the eleventh position with five games lost. Hotshots will meet at home Blackwater (#9) in the next round. Phoenix will have a break next round.

North Port - Ginebra Kings 88-95

Very important is a home loss of third ranked North Port (4-3) against fourth ranked Ginebra Kings (5-3) on Sunday night. Host North Port was defeated by Ginebra Kings in a tough game in Pasig City 88-95. Ginebra Kings outrebounded North Port 58-46 including 17 on the offensive glass. Ginebra Kings players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 15 passes made by North Port's players. It was a great evening for naturalized German forward Christian Standhardinger (206-1989, college: Hawaii) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. Swingman Ralph Cu (193) helped adding 24 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists.
