PBA Round 3 (Regular Season): Ginebra Kings lose to Meralco Bolts

What a coincidence that all visitors won their games. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

Ginebra Kings (2-1) recorded a loss in Manila on Friday night. Hosts were defeated by Meralco Bolts (2-3) 91-73. The best player for the winners was guard Chris Newsome (187-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) who scored 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Allein Maliksi (191-1987) chipped in 25 points. At the other side the best for losing team was guard Maverick Ahanmisi (188-1991, college: Minnesota) who recorded 14 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Meralco Bolts will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Ginebra Kings will play on the road against Hotshots (#8) in Pasig City and are hoping to win this game.
Another exciting game was played in Caloocan City between NLEX RW and Blackwater where NLEX RW (4-1) beat Blackwater (3-2) on the road 103-97. It was a good game for guard Robert Bolick (185-1995) who led his team to a victory with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Robbie Herndon contributed with 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Rey Suerte (192-1994) answered with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for Blackwater. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.
A very close game took place in Caloocan City (derby !!!) between Terrafirma Dyip and Blackwater. Terrafirma Dyip (3-2) got a very close victory on the road over Blackwater (3-2). Terrafirma Dyip managed to escape with a 1-point win 92-91 in the game for the third place. It was a great evening for Stephen Holt who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Jeth Troy Rosario with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game.

Other games of round 3 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
Phoenix defeated Terrafirma Dyip in Quezon 94-78. Winless Rain or Shine lost to undefeated SM Beermen at home 97-109. Hotshots destroyed FiberXers on the opponent's court 106-75.
The best stats of 3rd round was 14 points, 7 assists and 5 steals by Jiovani Jalalon of Hotshots.



Blackwater - NLEX RW 97-103

Another exciting game was played in Caloocan City between NLEX RW and Blackwater where NLEX RW (4-1) beat Blackwater (3-2) on the road 103-97. NLEX RW players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. It was a good game for guard Robert Bolick (185-1995) who led his team to a victory with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. American guard Robbie Herndon (191-1993, college: SF State) contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Rey Suerte (192-1994) answered with 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and naturalized Australian forward Bradwyn Guinto (198-1991) added 12 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Blackwater. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest.

Terrafirma Dyip - Phoenix 78-94

There was an upset in Makati City where Terrafirma Dyip (3-2) was defeated by Phoenix (1-2) 94-78 on Wednesday. Phoenix looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for guard Ryan Roose Garcia (180-1990) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists. Naturalized American forward Jason Perkins (193-1992, college: VCSU) helped adding 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Phoenix players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was guard Juan Tiongson (178-1991) with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!) and Javier Gomez De Liano (195-1998) scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Phoenix will meet at home SM Beermen (#9) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Terrafirma Dyip will have a break next round.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with SM Beermen's (1-0) road victory over Rain or Shine (0-4) 109-97 on Friday. SM Beermen looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for center June Mar Fajardo (210-1989) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Celedonio Trollano (191-1992) helped adding 16 points and 9 rebounds. Five SM Beermen players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was center Leonard Santillan (195-1996) with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 14 rebounds and Beau Belga (198-1986) scored 18 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. SM Beermen will meet Phoenix (#10) in the next round. Rain or Shine will play against Phoenix in Quezon and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Blackwater - Terrafirma Dyip 91-92

A very close game took place in Caloocan City (derby !!!) between Terrafirma Dyip and Blackwater. Terrafirma Dyip (3-2) got a very close victory on the road over Blackwater (3-2). Terrafirma Dyip managed to escape with a 1-point win 92-91 in the game for the third place. Terrafirma Dyip outrebounded Blackwater 52-38 including a 38-27 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Terrafirma Dyip made 7 blocks. It was a great evening for American Stephen Holt (193-1991, college: SMC) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds. Guard Juan Tiongson (178-1991) helped adding 20 points and 6 rebounds. The best for the losing side was forward Jeth Troy Rosario (201-1992) with 23 points and 8 rebounds and guard Regile Ilagan (180-1997) scored 15 points and 5 assists. Four Blackwater players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game.

Hotshots dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to FiberXers' 28. Hotshots forced 20 FiberXers turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a great evening for naturalized American forward Calvin Abueva (190-1988) who led his team to a victory scoring 14 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Jiovani Jalalon (175-1992) helped adding 14 points, 7 assists and 5 steals. Four Hotshots players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Justine Arana (201-1999) with 17 points and 6 rebounds and guard Alec Stockton (188-1998) scored 15 points. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hotshots will meet at home Ginebra Kings (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. FiberXers will have a break next round.
