NATIONAL University clinched its seventh straight UAAP women's basketball crown with a 76-64 win over La Salle in Game Two of the finals on Sunday at the Mall of Asia Arena. The Lady Bulldogs tie the league record set by the UE Red Warriors, who dominated from 1965 to 71. A close affair early in the first quarter, NU dropped a 19-4 bomb against La Salle to pull away, 27-11, and never looked back. Kristine Cayabyab (177-F/G-2002), who scored 14 of her 18 points in the first half, was hailed as Finals MVP. Angelica Surada (165-PG-2001) added 10 markers and nine boards. "The credit goes to all of our girls. From Day One, they've been committed, working hard and sacrificing a lot for this goal," said head coach Aris Dimaunahan . "The goal is to win the championship and I'm glad that each and every one of us did our share, and nanalo kami," he added. Princess Fabruada's split from the foul line gave the Lady Bulldogs their biggest lead at 23 late in the third quarter. La Salle crept to within 14 in the payoff period, but Camille Clarin (178-C-2001) ended hopes of a comeback bid after swishing a corner triple that hiked the lead back to 18, 70-52, with 4:12 left. Charmine Torres led the Lady Archers with 29 points and seven rebounds, but committed 11 turnovers. Fina Niantcho Tchuido added 13 markers and 22 boards for the runners-up.
