PBA Round 1: Blackwater Elite lose to Bay Area D.- September 23, 2022

Blackwater Elite - Bay Area D. 87-133 The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Blackwater Elite in Caloocan City on Wednesday night. Hosts were rolled over by Bay Area D. 133-87. Bay Area D. dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Blackwater Elite's 42 and made 23-of-26 free shots (88.5 percent) during the game. Bay Area D. had a 45-29 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. 24 personal fouls committed by Blackwater Elite helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American guard Myles Powell (188-1997, college: Seton Hall) fired 41 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds (made all of his nine free throws !!!) for the winners. British-Canadian guard Glen Yang (193, college: Mount Royal) chipped in 22 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. American center Cameron Krutwig (206-1998, college: Loyola, IL) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists and Renato Ular added 13 points and 14 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Bay Area D. and five Blackwater Elite players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Bay Area D. is looking forward to face North Port in Pasig City in the next round. Blackwater Elite will play on the road against Phoenix in Quezon and it may be a tough game between close rivals. North Port saved a 3-point victory at home edging Phoenix 92-89 on Wednesday evening. North Port forced 21 Phoenix turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American-Rwandan center Prince Ibeh (208-1994, college: Texas) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 15 rebounds. Forward Arvin Tolentino (195-1995) contributed with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks for the winners. Five North Port players scored in double figures. Javee Mocon (193-1995) answered with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds and American power forward Kaleb Wesson (208-1999, college: Ohio St.) added 14 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists in the effort for Phoenix. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. North Port will play against Bay Area D. in Hong Kong in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Phoenix will play at home against Blackwater Elite and it may be a tough game between close rivals. It was a very good performance for American forward Quincy Miller-Scott (206-1992, college: Baylor) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 38 points (!!!), 16 rebounds and 5 assists. Guard Maverick Ahanmisi (188-1991, college: Minnesota) contributed with 18 points and 7 assists for the winners. British V.Islands-Indonesian center Lester Prosper (210-1988, college: Old Westbury, agency: YoungGroup Unlimited) answered with a double-double by scoring 43 points (!!!), 25 rebounds and 5 assists and naturalized American guard Alex Cabagnot (183-1982, college: Hawaii-Hilo) added 13 points and 8 assists in the effort for Terrafirma Dyip. Five FiberXers and four Terrafirma Dyip players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. FiberXers will play against Ginebra Kings in Manila in the next round. Terrafirma Dyip will have a break next round. It was a very good performance for American Earl Clark (208-1988, college: Louisville) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 26 points, 14 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks. Center Justin Chua (198-1989) contributed with 18 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Five NLEX RW players scored in double figures. American forward Steve Taylor Jr. (206-1993, college: Toledo) answered with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and Beau Belga (198-1986) added 5 points and 14 rebounds in the effort for Rain or Shine. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. NLEX RW will play against Meralco Bolts in Manila in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Rain or Shine will have a break next round.
