PBA Governor's Cup Round 1: SM Beermen lose to NLEX RW

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

SM Beermen recorded a loss in Makati City on Wednesday night. Visitors were defeated by NLEX RW 114-102. NLEX RW looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by SM Beermen's players. American swingman KJ McDaniels (198-93, college: Clemson) fired a double-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. point guard Kevin Alas (183-91) chipped in 12 points and 8 assists. American Brandon Brown (201-85, college: CSUSB) produced a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. NLEX RW is looking forward to face North Port in Pasig in the next round. SM Beermen will play on the road against North Port in Pasig and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Another exciting game took place in Makati City where Phoenix edged by three points Terrafirma Dyip 103-100. Terrafirma Dyip was very close to get their first win. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. Worth to mention a great performance of American swingman Paul Harris (195-86, college: Syracuse) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 24 points and 15 rebounds. Matthew Wright contributed with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. American forward Antonio Hester (199-90, college: Mobile, AL) answered with a double-double by scoring 28 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists (on 11-of-14 shooting from the field) for Terrafirma Dyip. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Phoenix will play against Blackwater Elite in Caloocan City in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Terrafirma Dyip will play on the road against Rain or Shine in Manila to get more than just one victory in their record.

Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Rain or Shine will meet at home Terrafirma Dyip in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Blackwater Elite will play against Phoenix in Quezon and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 1 winless North Port lost to undefeated Alaska Aces in Makati 85-87.



Blackwater Elite - Rain or Shine 79-92

Very important is a home loss of Blackwater Elite against Rain or Shine on Thursday night. Host Blackwater Elite was defeated by Rain or Shine in Caloocan City 92-79. Rain or Shine looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. American swingman Henry Walker (198-87, college: Kansas St.) stepped up and scored 20 points and 8 rebounds for the winners and Javee Mocon (193-95) chipped in 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. At the losing side American guard Rashawn McCarthy (185-89, college: Old Westbury) responded with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and power forward Kevin Ebona (197-96) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Rain or Shine will meet at home Terrafirma Dyip in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Blackwater Elite will play against Phoenix in Quezon and hope to win that game.

Alaska Aces - North Port 87-85

Alaska Aces used a home court advantage and edged the opponent from Pasig 87-85 on Wednesday night. Nigerian-Canadian Olu Ashaolu (200-88, college: Oregon) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds for the winners and guard Jeron Alvin Teng (190-94) chipped in 19 points. At the losing side American-Jordanian forward Cameron Forte (201-93, college: Portland St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 15 rebounds and forward Arwind Santos (193-81) scored 23 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. Four North Port players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Alaska Aces will meet at home Ginebra Kings in the next round. North Port will play against SM Beermen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
