PBA Round 2 (Philippine Cup): Hotshots hold off Alaska Aces

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in PBA. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Hotshots edged Alaska Aces in Pasig City 84-82. Strangely Alaska Aces outrebounded Hotshots 54-37 including a 16-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Alaska Aces helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was power forward Ian Paul Sangalang (201-91) who scored 26 points and 5 rebounds. Naturalized American forward Calvin Abueva (190-88) chipped in 9 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Center Yousef Taha (201-88, college: North Lake CC) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Quezon. Local Phoenix was outscored by North Port 115-79. Guard Robert Bolick (185-95) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 7 rebounds and 11 assists. Kevin Ferrer contributed with 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Forward Vic Manuel (193-87) replied with 26 points for Phoenix. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

The best stats of 2nd round was 20 points and 8 rebounds by Troy Rike of North Port.

North Port brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Phoenix was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Kevin Ferrer (194-93) contributed with 20 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Five North Port players scored in double figures. Forward Vic Manuel (193-87) replied with 26 points and naturalized Canadian guard Matthew Wright (193-91, college: St.Bonaventure) added 15 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Phoenix.
