Juan Gomez de Liano has received interest to play in Australia, Egypt- August 8, 2020
Juan Gomez De Liano (188-F-99) has been sensational over the last three years. Since breaking out during the UAAP Season 80 Men's Basketball Tournament, the 6-foot guard has helped lead University of the Philippines to the Final Four for two straight years - including a Finals appearance in Season 81. And the Fil-Spaniard hasn't just made his mark on the collegiate scene. Gomez de Liano has been a mainstay for touring club Mighty Sports, and is also part of the current batch of Gilas Pilipinas cadets. With this, he has also attracted foreign club teams, just like his peers Thirdy Ravena and Ken Tuffin. According to multiple sources closely monitoring the situation, the incoming UP senior turned down offers to play in Japan and New Zealand last year. Then after the Dubai International Basketball Championship last January, an Egyptian club team also expressed interest in signing him. One of the sources added that an Australia NBL team has also shown interest in tapping him. Though he has yet to receive a formal offer, Gomez de Liano is open to signing if one ever arrives - since he doesn't want to regret not taking the chance. 'Personally, it's been a goal of mine to play overseas, especially that I have a Spanish passport din eh so it would be much easier to play in different clubs. I'm just taking it one day at a time. Pagtanda ko, I don't wanna look back and say I should have done this. I don't want that to happen,' said the 20-year-old. |
