SM Beermen defeated TNT Ka Tropa to take the lead in the series. Center June-Mar Fajardo (210-89) fired a double-double by scoring 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Naturalized American swingman Marcio Lassiter (190-87, college: CS Fullerton) chipped in 15 points and 6 rebounds. Four SM Beermen players scored in double figures. Forward Jeth-Troy Rosario (201-92) produced 23 points and 9 rebounds and Roger-Ray Pogoy (189-92) added 16 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game.

Ginebra Kings rallied past Hotshots to surge ahead. Ginebra Kings dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Hotshots' 42. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. Ginebra Kings brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of center Japeth Aguilar (206-87, college: WKU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Center Greg Slaughter (216-88) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Ian-Paul Sangalang (201-91) answered with 14 points and 8 rebounds and guard Paul Lee (185-89) added 15 points in the effort for Hotshots. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.

Phoenix advanced into the next round after they beat Alaska Aces. Phoenix outrebounded Alaska Aces 56-40 including 22 on the offensive glass. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Alaska Aces' players. Alaska Aces were plagued by 32 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of naturalized American forward Jason Perkins (193-92, college: Valley City St.) who helped to win the game recording 31 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized American forward Calvin Abueva (190-88) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Point guard Jayvee Casio (178-86) answered with 19 points and guard Jeron-Alvin Teng (190-94) added 12 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Alaska Aces.
