There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in PBA. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Phoenix defeated Columbian Dyip in Quezon 108-98. Phoenix made 30-of-39 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. They also forced 23 Columbian Dyip turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 34 personal fouls committed by Columbian Dyip helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Naturalized American forward Calvin Abueva (190-88) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points and 9 rebounds. Naturalized Canadian guard Matthew Wright (193-91, college: St.Bonaventure) contributed with 22 points for the winners. Guard Jaymar Perez (188-93) replied with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for Columbian Dyip. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Columbian Dyip will play next round against Ginebra Kings trying to get back on the winning streak. Phoenix will try to continue on its current victory against Blackwater Elite in Caloocan City.
Global Port (2-1) recorded a loss in Makati City. Visitors were defeated by Columbian Dyip (2-2) 110-100. American guard Rashawn McCarthy (185-89, college: Old Westbury) had a double-double by scoring 14 points, 6 rebounds and 12 assists to lead the charge for the winners and Jackson Corpuz chipped in 15 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Naturalized Tongan center Moala Tautuaa (200-89, college: Chadron St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field). Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Columbian Dyip will play against Ginebra Kings (#9) in Manila in the next round where they are favorite. Global Port will have a break next round.
An interesting game was also home defeat of Ginebra Kings in a game in Manila versus Rain or Shine (#2) 83-80. Norbert Torres notched 12 points and 8 rebounds to lead the effort. Even 19 points and 8 rebounds by Japeth Aguilar did not help to save the game for Ginebra Kings. Both coaches allowed to play bench players in such tough game. Rain or Shine will meet Alaska Aces (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Ginebra Kings will play against Columbian Dyip and hope to win that game.
Very important is a home loss of Rain or Shine (2-1) against Blackwater Elite (1-2) on Wednesday night. Host Rain or Shine was defeated by Blackwater Elite in Manila 111-99. The best player for the winners was Michael Digregorio who scored 27 points and 5 rebounds. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Blackwater Elite's next round opponent will be Phoenix in Quezon and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Rain or Shine will play on the road against Alaska Aces in Makati and hope to win that game.
Very important is a road loss of Columbian Dyip (2-2) against NLEX RW (1-3) on Sunday night. Visiting Columbian Dyip was defeated by NLEX RW in Makati City 107-97. John-Paul Erram orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 blocks. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. NLEX RW will face Meralco Bolts (#6) in Manila in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Columbian Dyip will play on the road against Ginebra Kings in Manila and hope to win that game.

There were no big surprises in other games of round 2: Meralco Bolts beat TNT Ka Tropa on the road 88-77. Bottom-ranked NLEX RW lost to TNT Ka Tropa on its own court 80-85. TNT Ka Tropa managed to outperform SM Beermen in Makati 104-93. Meralco Bolts recorded a loss to SM Beermen at home 93-105.



TNT Ka Tropa - Meralco Bolts 77-88

There was a surprise result when Meralco Bolts (2-2) beat TNT Ka Tropa (2-3) in Makati 88-77 on Wednesday. TNT Ka Tropa was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Chris Newsome (187-90, college: N.Mexico Highlands) orchestrated the victory by scoring 20 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Naturalized American swingman Jared Dillinger (195-84, college: Hawaii) contributed with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Five Meralco Bolts players scored in double figures. Point guard Jayson Castro-William (180-86) replied with 20 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and Roger-Ray Pogoy (189-92) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for TNT Ka Tropa. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Meralco Bolts will face NLEX RW (#10) in Makati City in the next round where they are favorite. TNT Ka Tropa will play at home against Hotshots and hope to win that game.

Columbian Dyip forced 22 Global Port turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Global Port was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. TNT Ka Tropa's coach Nash Racela used an eleven-player rotation and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Naturalized German forward Christian Standhardinger (206-89, college: Hawaii) replied with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 10 rebounds and American guard Chris Ross (185-85, college: Marshall) added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 15 assists in the effort for SM Beermen. Four TNT Ka Tropa and five SM Beermen players scored in double figures. TNT Ka Tropa will face Hotshots (#12) in Pasig City in the next round where they are favorite. Point guard Nard Pinto (180-90) replied with 13 points and 5 assists and point guard Baser Amer (180-92) added 11 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Meralco Bolts. Meralco Bolts' coach Norman Black rotated fifteen players in this game, but that didn't help. KEVIN MURPHY Al-Muharraq (Premier League) inked 28-year old American guard Kevin Murphy (197-84kg-90, college: Tenn Tech). He joins another USA player Chester Giles which is already in the roster. Murphy played in the summer at SM Beermen in Filipino PBA league. He managed to play in five leagues in three countries last year (!!!).
