EUGENE PHELPS

American Forward Eugene Phelps (198-F-90) had an amazing evening in the last round for top-ranked Phoenix, receiving a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 6 (Governors' Cup).
The 28-year old player had a double-double of 36 points and 20 rebounds, while his team beat Hotshots (#6, 3-1) 95-82. It allowed Phoenix to take over top position in the Filipino PBA. Phoenix have a solid 5-1 record. In the team's last game Phelps had a remarkable 55.0% from 2-point range. He turned to be Phoenix's top player in his first season with the team. Former Long Beach State University star has very solid stats this year. Phelps is in league's top in points (4th best: 30.3ppg), rebounds (2nd best: 17.7rpg) and averages impressive 3.2bpg and 52.4% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was 30-year old American Marqus Blakely (201-F-88) of TNT Ka Tropa. Blakely had a very good evening with a double-double of 26 points and 14 rebounds. It was enough for TNT Ka Tropa to edge Rain or Shine (#10, 0-2) 110-104. This victory allowed TNT Ka Tropa to move up to 7th position in the standings. His team is not often considered as one of the league's best with a mere 3-4 record. Blakely is a newcomer at TNT Ka Tropa, but is already one of team's top players.

Third on the list of top players last round was American forward Justin Brownlee (197-F-88) of Ginebra Kings (#3). Brownlee showcased his all-around game by recording 29 points, nineteen rebounds (!!!) and seven assists in the last round. He was a key player of Ginebra Kings, leading his team to a 110-102 win against the lower-ranked SM Beermen (#8, 2-2). Ginebra Kings is closer and closer to top of the standings. They will still need more victories. But 4-1 record is not that bad... Brownlee has a great season in Philippines. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 35.2ppg (best scorer), rebounds with 12.8rpg (8th best) and assists with 6.2apg (7th best). Brownlee attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball.

Other top performing players last week:
4. Aaron Fuller (198-F-89) of NLEX RW - 24 points, 20 rebounds and 4 assists
5. Romeo Travis (198-PF-84) of Hotshots - 22 points, 16 rebounds and 3 assists
6. J'Nathan Bullock (196-F-87) of Rain or Shine - 23 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists
7. Aljon Mariano (190-F/G-92) of Ginebra Kings - 20 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Christian Standhardinger (206-F-89) of SM Beermen - 25 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists
9. Shej Roi Sumang (177-PG-91) of Blackwater Elite - 24 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Calvin Abueva (190-F-88) of Phoenix - 9 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)

The Player of the Week awards are presented by Interperformances. Interperformances is a full-service agency specializing in the representation of professional athletes the world-over.
