The most surprising game was a loss of NLEX RW (2-1) in Makati City on Sunday night. Hosts were defeated by Phoenix (2-1) 102-95. Phoenix looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. It was a good game for naturalized Canadian guard Matthew Wright (193-91, college: St.Bonaventure) who led his team to a victory with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Forward Jeffrei Chan (188-83) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Swingman Larry Fonacier (185-82) answered with 22 points for NLEX RW. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Phoenix will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. NLEX RW will play on the road against Hotshots in Pasig City and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game between KIA Picanto (0-3) and Hotshots (2-1) in Makati City ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Pasig City outscored KIA Picanto 124-77. Worth to mention a quality performance of naturalized American guard Justin Melton (180-87, college: Mount Olive) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Ian-Paul Sangalang helped adding 21 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was center Jay-R Reyes (201-84) with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Hotshots will play against NLEX RW (#5) in Makati City in the next round. KIA Picanto will play at home against Alaska Aces (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 3 Meralco Bolts was beaten by Alaska Aces on the road 103-98. Winless Globalport lost to undefeated B.Ginebra on its own court 97-104.

Alaska Aces - Meralco Bolts 103-98

There was a surprise result when Alaska Aces (1-2) beat Meralco Bolts (1-2) in Makati 103-98. Alaska Aces dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Meralco Bolts' 28 and made 20-of-22 charity shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Alaska Aces players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. Meralco Bolts were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. It was a great evening for naturalized American forward Calvin Abueva (190-88) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 9 rebounds. Forward Vic Manuel (193-87) helped adding 19 points. The best for the losing side was guard Chris Newsome (187-90, college: N.Mexico Highlands) with 23 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists (went 14 for 14 at the free throw line !!!) and forward Nino Canaleta (198-82) produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game. Alaska Aces will play against KIA Picanto (#12) in Makati City in the next round. Meralco Bolts will have a break next round.

The game between KIA Picanto (0-3) and Hotshots (2-1) in Makati City ended with biggest points difference. Guests from Pasig City outscored KIA Picanto 124-77. Hotshots made 31-of-37 charity shots (83.8 percent) during the game, while KIA Picanto only scored eleven points from the stripe. Hotshots forced 24 KIA Picanto turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 33 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by KIA Picanto's players. KIA Picanto was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a quality performance of naturalized American guard Justin Melton (180-87, college: Mount Olive) who helped to win the game recording 23 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Power forward Ian-Paul Sangalang (201-91) helped adding 21 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was center Jay-R Reyes (201-84) with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists and American guard Rashawn McCarthy (185-89, college: Old Westbury) produced a double-double by scoring 11 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Globalport - B.Ginebra 97-104

Very expected game when Globalport (0-2) lost to B.Ginebra (2-0) in Pasig 97-104. B.Ginebra dominated down low during the game scoring 74 of its points in the paint compared to Globalport's 52. They outrebounded Globalport 58-46 including 23 on the offensive glass. B.Ginebra players were unselfish on offense dishing 31 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 11 blocks. It was a great evening for center Japeth Aguilar (206-87, college: W.Kentucky) who led his team to a victory scoring 21 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 blocks. Point guard Lewis Tenorio (177-84) helped adding 17 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. The best for the losing side was naturalized American point guard Stanley Pringle (184-87, college: Penn St., agency: Pensack Sports) with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists and naturalized American forward Sean Anthony (193-86) scored 29 points and 9 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Globalport's coach Franz Pumaren rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. B.Ginebra will play against Blackwater (#6) in Caloocan City in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Globalport will play on the road against Rain or Shine (#7) in Manila and looks forward to get finally their first victory.
