Pakistan will finally take part in an international basketball tournament when they head to Saudi Arabia for the first Islamic Solidarity Games early April with the rest of the country's contingent.
A camp in preparation for the Games is currently in progress at the indoor courts of the Army Sports Stadium in Rawalpindi where around 20 boys are honing their skills under the supervision of Lt Col Naseem Butt, who is also the secretary of the ad hoc committee of the Pakistan Amateur Basketball Association.
Pakistan are placed in Group D of the basketball tournament of the Islamic Games and are bracketed with Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Tajikistan and Chad.
Following are the other groups:
Group A: Syria, Jordan, Sudan, Uganda, Kirgiziya.
Group B: Iran, Morocco, Mali, Cameron, Maldives, Palestine.
Group C: Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Azerbaijan, Somalia, Yemen.
Meanwhile, the national players at the camp are busy in playing a three-a-side basketball tournament, being organised by the ad hoc committee in Rawalpindi.
On Monday, Shershah outplayed Scorpios 38-20, Hawks overwhelmed Show Stoppers 61-34, Shaheens downed Falcons 40-25 and had no trouble in beating Citi Club 44-30 in their second match of the day, Shershah beat Janbaz 40-28.
The semi-finals of the 14-team tournament will be played on Feb 17 while the final is slated to be held on 18th.
