Al-Najma Manama (Premier League) landed 26-year old American 185cm guard Shamorie Ponds (college: St.John's). He joins another USA player Robert Lowery who is already in the roster.
He started the season at Miners in Mongolian MBL league. In 21 games he averaged impressive 22.9ppg, 6.1rpg, 4.3apg and 3.3spg. He was also voted League Player of the Week. The last season summer he played at Marinos de Oriente (SPB) in Venezuelan league.
In 2021 (two years after his graduation) Delaware Blue Coats selected him as first overall pick in G-League draft.
He graduated from St. John's University in 2019 and it is his sixth season in pro basketball.
Ponds was a member of USA Under 19 National Team back in 2017.
He is a very experienced player. Ponds has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to seven different countries on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Bosnia (Spars), Mexico (Astros), Qatar (Al Rayyan), Uruguay (Malvin), Venezuela, NBA (Toronto Raptors) and NBA G League (Raptors 905 Mississauga).
Among many awards he won Mexican CIBACOPA championship title in 2023. Ponds was also voted to Latinbasket.com All-Mexican CIBACOPA Defensive Player of the Year in 2023.
