American guard Shamorie Ponds (185-G-1998, college: St.John's) was tied for the best scorer of the day in the world with the 36 points he had in the Mongolian league. Ponds graduated from St. John's University in 2019. His excellent performance made his team the Miners beat the Bizon 95 to 91. He also grabbed 7 rebounds that game. Ponds is the 5th best scorer in the league averaging almost 23 points and almost 5 rebounds per game. Among many awards he won the Mexican CIBACOPA championship title in 2023. He was also selected as the Latinbasket All-Mexican CIBACOPA Defensive Player of the Year and to the Second Team in 2023. Ponds was selected to the NABC Division 1 All-District 5 First Team back in 2019 during his college time. Ponds was also awarded Player of the Week in the Mongolian League.
