MBL Round 16 (Regular Season): Apes lose to Metal

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most important game in the last round took place in between third ranked Apes (9-7) and fourth ranked Metal (10-8) on Sunday night. Apes were defeated by Metal in a tough game at home 75-80. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Apes. Metal dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Apes' 36. Strangely Apes outrebounded Metal 37-22 including 24 on the defensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of B Wesley who helped to win the game recording 31 points, 6 rebounds and 9 assists. American power forward Devon Scott (205-1994, college: Dayton) contributed with 14 points for the winners. South Sudanese-Australian center Deng Acuoth (208-1996) replied with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds for Apes. Metal moved-up to third place. Apes at the other side dropped to the fourth position with seven games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
MBL top team - Broncos (16-2) added another victory to their record. This time they beat seventh ranked Brothers (6-7) in Ulaanbaatar 90-84. Worth to mention a quality performance of international forward Ikhbayar Chuluunbaatar (194-2000) who helped to win the game recording 28 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists and Jordan Tolbert who added 17 points, 13 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. At the losing side American power forward Diamond Stone (208-1997, college: Maryland) responded with 27 points and 7 rebounds. Broncos have a solid three-game winning streak. Xac Broncos maintains first position with 16-2 record. Brothers at the other side keep the seventh place with seven games lost. Xac Broncos will play against bottom-ranked Bison (#10) in Nalaikh in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Brothers will play on the road against the league's second-placed Selenge in Sukhbaatar and hope to get back on the winning track.

It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Miners. The winners were led by Sanchir Tsagaanbaatar who scored that evening 18 points and 5 rebounds. Even 21 points and 5 steals by Shamorie Ponds did not help to save the game for Miners. Despite that victory Apes went down to fourth position due to points difference. Loser Miners keep the eighth place with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

In the last game of round 16 Bison was beaten by Darkhan on the road 107-102.




Miners - Apes 64-96

The game in Erdenet supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Apes (9-7) played at the court of 8th ranked Miners (6-12). Apes smashed Miners 96-64 on Saturday. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Miners. Apes made 18-of-22 free shots (81.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Miners 47-30 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. Apes looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Miners' players. The winners were led by forward Sanchir Tsagaanbaatar (193-2000) who scored that evening 18 points and 5 rebounds and international guard Ulzii Myagmarsuren (181-2000) supported him with 9 points and 7 assists. Even 21 points and 5 steals by American guard Shamorie Ponds (185-1998, college: St.John's) did not help to save the game for Miners. Nigerian-American power forward Maxie Esho (206-1991, college: UMass) added 16 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Despite that victory Apes went down to fourth position due to points difference. Loser Miners keep the eighth place with 12 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.

Darkhan - Bison 107-102

No shocking result in a game when sixth ranked United (8-7) beat bottom-ranked Bizon (5-13) in Darkhan 107-102 on Saturday. American players dominated the game. The winners were led by guard Tae Hardy (190, college: UTEP) who scored that evening 30 points and 7 rebounds and forward Terran Petteway (198-1992, college: Nebraska, agency: MSG) supported him with 23 points and 6 rebounds. Even a double-double of 37 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds by power forward Justin Moss (203-1993, college: Buffalo) did not help to save the game for Bison. Center Kyree Walker (198-2000) added 27 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Darkhan moved-up to fifth place. Bison lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the bottom position with 13 games lost. Darkhan will meet at home UB TLG (#9) in the next round. Bison will play against the league's leader Xac Broncos and hope to secure a win.
