Darkhan lands Sam Thompson, ex Marineros

Sam Thompson

Newly promoted Darkhan United (MBL) tabbed 31-year old American 200cm forward Sam Thompson (college: Ohio State). He played most recently at Marineros in LNB league in Dominican Republic. In four games he just recently played he averaged 8.5ppg and 3.3rpg last season. The last season he played at Gargzdu (LKL) in Lithuanian league.
In 2015 he was drafted by Grand Rapids Drive (D-League) in first round (7th overall).
The former Ohio State standout is in his ninth season in pro basketball.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He is a very experienced player. And here thanks to pro basketball he experienced life in seven different countries playing on four different continents. He is familiar with European, Asian, Australian and of course North American leagues. He has played previously professionally in Hungary (Vasas), Italy (Monferrato), Lebanon (Homentmen), Lithuania, New Zealand (Giants), NBA G League (Sioux Falls Skyforce, Delaware Blue Coats, Grand Rapids Gold and Greensboro Swarm) and Vietnam (Heat). Thompson's team made it to the NBA G League Semifinals in 2023.
Among many awards he was voted to Asia-Basket.com All-ASEAN League Honorable Mention back in 2020.
