Russia claimed the opening win at the World University Games. The hosts thrashed Mongolia in Kazan. Liubov Paskalenko (205-C-90) notched 24 points and 15 rebounds to lead the winners.
Russia led from start to finish. They erupted for 31 points in the opening frame to take a 21-point lead. Russia added 33 points in the second period to accumulate a 64:17 halftime lead. The hosts scored easily in the second half to breeze to an overwhelming victory at the end. Anastasia Logunova (192-C-90) netted 18 points for Russia. Anastasiya Loginova (190-C-90) and Tatiana Grigoryeva (179-F-90, agency: IPSA) had 15 points each for the winning side. Solongo Bayasgalan answered with 12 points for Mongolia. Jargalan Dugarsuren had 3 points in the loss.
