Penang Sunrise Youngsters tab Yevgen Sakhniuk

Yevgen Sakhniuk

Penang Sunrise Youngsters (MBL) inked 29-year old Ukrainian 201cm forward Yevgen Sakhniuk (college: Jefferson) for upcoming season. He played most recently at Catfish in Vietnamese VBA league. In 20 games he just recently played he recorded very impressive stats: 17.0ppg, 14.3rpg, 6.0apg, 1.6spg and 1.4bpg last season. He helped them to make it to the Vietnamese VBA final. Good season as he was voted League Player of the Week (3 times) and selected to Asia-Basket.com All-Vietnamese VBA Second Team. The last season he played at Grupo Eleyco Baskonia B team (EBA) in Spanish league.
Sakhniuk represented Ukraine at the European Championship (FIBA EuroBasket) U20 Division B in Sarajevo (Bosnia) ten years ago. Sakhniuk's team won Bronze and he had over 3 points per game.
He is a very experienced player. Sakhniuk has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to four different countries on three different continents (Europe, Asia and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Spain (Clavijo and Zornotza), Spain, Vietnam (Dragons and Wings) and Ukraine (Kyiv Basket).
Among many awards his college team won CACC Tournament in 2018. Sakhniuk was voted to Eurobasket.com All-Spanish LEB Silver Honorable Mention back in 2020.
He graduated from Jefferson University in 2018 and it will be his seventh season in pro basketball. Sakhniuk played also for La Salle University for 3 years.
