As the U18 National Selection Team makes their first appearance in the U20 D-League National Tournament, they have opted for competitive play instead of closed-door practices. This strategic decision shows their dedication to growth and improvement as they face real challenges on the basketball court, preparing themselves for the tough battles ahead.
In their first game, they faced experienced opponents, including former members of the National U18 youth teams now playing for different teams. The court featured players like Elaine Chong Hui Lin, Erica Ng Mun Shuen, Vishalini Charmaine PRAGASH, Emily Tan Qi Yi, and Yun Jia Huey from Selangor EST Jersey, each representing the future of Malaysian basketball with their experience and tenacity.
Amidst this clash of generations, emerging talents like Er Zi Jie from Johor Southern Tigers, Ler Yee Low, and Joey Sim from NS Matrix Deers brought youthful energy and raw talent to the competition. This collision of seasoned wisdom and raw potential showcased the depth of talent within Malaysian basketball, setting the stage for an exciting display of skill and determination.
The National U18 Selection Team is preparing for the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup SEABA Qualifier 2024, which will be held in Thailand from May 24th to 26th, following the completion of their local voyage. Coaches Pang Hui Pin and Izzati will lead their girls to the FIBA U18 Women’s Asia Cup in Shenzhen, China, from June 24th to 30th. Both coaches previously defeated Mongolia in the finals on their own court, 64-53. Let’s support the girls and coaches as they pursue a bright future in women’s basketball.
