The most exciting game of round 7 in the MPL took place in Penang. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of their biggest opponent Johor Tigers (11-6) to third ranked Penang SY (7-10) 73-71 on Saturday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Jordan Tolbert (200-1992, college: SMU) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 30 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. His fellow American import guard Cameron Satterwhite (193-1997, college: Montana) contributed with 14 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American forward Arinze Chidom (206-1997, college: UC Riverside) answered with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 17 rebounds, 4 assists and 8 steals for Johor Tigers. Johor Tigers' coach Kian Ann Yong rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Penang SY maintains third place with 7-10 record having seven points less than leader NS Matrix. Johor Tigers at the other side keep the second position with six games lost.
Important game to mention about took place in Penang. Fourth ranked Rising Star (5-12) saved a 2-point victory on the road edging 3rd placed Penang SY (7-10) 85-83 on Friday evening. It was a great evening for DR Congolese guard Tychique Bosango (189-2001) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Marcellus Roberts helped adding 11 points and 10 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Jordan Tolbert (200-1992, college: SMU) responded with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 18 rebounds. Penang SY's coach Guan-Tan Seak tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Despite that victory Rising Star went down to fifth position due to points difference. Penang SY lost third consecutive game. They keep the third place with ten games lost.
An interesting game for NS Matrix (14-3) which played road game in Kuala Lumpur against 4th placed KL Aseel (5-11). First ranked NS Matrix managed to get a 13-point victory 76-63. It was an exceptional evening for Amir Williams who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. Lamonte Bearden came up with 20 points and 7 rebounds for KL Aseel in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. NS Matrix have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 14-3 record. Loser KL Aseel keeps the fourth position with 11 games lost.
Other games in round 7 were not that significant. KL Aseel beat Rising Star on the road 85-77. Johor Tigers lost to defending champion NS Matrix on its own court 68-94. Penang SY managed to outperform KL Aseel in a road game 85-77.
