MBL Round 1: Pegasus are defeated by Penang SY

The Regular Season in MBL just started. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Pegasus on the court of Penang SY on Wednesday night. Visitors were edged by Penang SY 86-84. Penang SY shot 21 for 30 from the free-throw line, while Pegasus only scored five points from the stripe. Penang SY forced 26 Pegasus turnovers. Thailand Kittitep Dasom stepped up and scored 24 points for the winners and Jayson Lee chipped in 18 points. At the losing side Thailand center Wutipong Dasom (195-1991) responded with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Penang SY are looking forward to face Johor Tigers in Johor Baharu in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pegasus will play at home against Adroit and are hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
Very significant was KL Aseel's (#2, 2-0) victory against Penang SY 92-70. Filipino guard Jai Reyes (173-1987) nailed 23 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and Wei-Long Tan accounted for 12 points and 14 rebounds. Australian Jean-Luc Morel came up with 20 points and 9 rebounds for Penang SY in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. KL Aseel will play against NS Matrix in the next round. Penang SY will play against Johor Tigers in Johor Baharu to get more than just one victory in their record.
The game in Singapore was also quite interesting. Johor Tigers played at the court of Adroit. Johor Tigers defeated Adroit 89-74 on Thursday. Tevin Glass fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Charles Garcia produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds for lost side. Adroit's coach rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Johor Tigers will meet at home Penang SY in the next round. Adroit will play against Pegasus in Bandar Seri Begawan and hope to win that game.

The most impressive stats of the last round was 14 points, 5 assists and 5 steals by Chee-wei Lim of Johor Tigers.



Penang SY - Pegasus 86-84

They outrebounded Penang SY 54-36 including a 42-29 advantage in defensive rebounds. Filipino guard Jai Reyes (173-1987) nailed 23 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and the former international guard Wei-Long Tan (188-1993) accounted for 12 points and 14 rebounds. Strangely Adroit outrebounded Johor Tigers 54-38 including 20 on the offensive glass. American forward Tevin Glass (206-1994, college: ETSU, agency: BIG) fired a double-double by scoring 22 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Joon Kang Lee (176-1999) chipped in 15 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Five Johor Tigers players scored in double figures. Costa Rican-Belizean Charles Garcia (204-1988, college: Seattle) produced a double-double by scoring 24 points and 14 rebounds and Singapore guard Zhong-Han Wong (186-1997) added 21 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side.
