WLBL Round 13 (Regular Season): Homentmen keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Homentmen as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Homentmen defeated 3rd placed Azour in Antelias 68-59. Homentmen outrebounded Azour 48-29 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international guard Amar Mansour (175-2004, college: St.Joseph's) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 13 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and the former international Reem El Ghali (181-2007) chipped in 16 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side international center Zena Elias (190-2000, college: USA) responded with 23 points and 8 rebounds. Homentmen (13-1) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Azour at the other side keeps the third place with three games lost. Azour will play next round against NSA trying to get back on the winning streak. Homentmen will try to continue on its current victory against ninth ranked Almtayleb at home.
Important game to mention about took place in . Seventh ranked NSA (5-9) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 6th ranked Bkennaya (4-8) 75-72 in the game for the sixth place. American guard Syrita Faraj (175, college: St.Rose, NY) nailed a double-double by scoring 19 points and 20 rebounds for the winning side and Nancy Maalouf accounted for 13 points, 15 rebounds and 10 assists. NSA's coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Center Sandra Beddawi (168-1992, agency: BIG) came up with 30 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for Bkennaya in the defeat. NSA moved-up to sixth place. Bkennaya lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with eight games lost. NSA will play against higher ranked Azour (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bkennaya will play against the league's second-placed Al Riyadi (#2) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
WLBL top team - Al Riyadi (12-1) had no problems winning another game on Saturday. This time they crushed seventh ranked NSA (5-9) 85-48. Rebecca Akl fired a double-double by scoring 30 points, 12 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals for the winners. Syrita Faraj produced a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds for lost side. NSA's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Al Riyadi. Despite that victory Al Riyadi went down to second position due to points difference. NSA lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the sixth place with nine games lost. Al Riyadi will meet Bkennaya (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. NSA will play against Azour and hope to secure a win.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 13: Beirut FC destroyed Almtayleb on the opponent's court 86-26. Azour outscored Damour in a home game 87-34. Homentmen rolled over Antranik on the road 98-67. Beirut FC crushed Antranik on its own court 84-58. Bkennaya was beaten by Damour in a road game 62-50.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 26 points and 7 rebounds by Pia Khattar of Bkennaya.
