WLBL Round 16 (Regular Season): Club Beirut edges Al Riyadi by two points

Host teams show no mercy winning all games. Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game of round 16 in the WLBL took place in Beirut. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of their biggest opponent Al Riyadi (15-2) to top-ranked Club Beirut (18-0) 68-66 in the game for the first place. It ended at the same time the eight-game winning streak of Al Riyadi. They outrebounded Al Riyadi 39-26 including 28 on the defensive glass. The former international Nathalie Sevadjian (170-1988) fired 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. The former international forward Aida Bakhos (178-1986, college: Lamar) chipped in 12 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international point guard Rebecca Akl (170-1992) produced 21 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists for lost side. Undefeated Club Beirut have an impressive 18-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 18-0 record. Al Riyadi at the other side keeps the second place with two games lost.
The game in was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked Hoops (8-10) played at the court of eighth ranked NSA (5-13). NSA managed to secure a 4-point victory 49-45. Worth to mention a great performance of Rachelle Aoun who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. Jana Ghossain contributed with 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Lara Nakib replied with 16 points and 5 rebounds for Hoops. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted NSA maintains eighth position with 5-13 record. Hoops at the other side dropped to the fifth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Antranik.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Antelias. Local Homentmen (14-3) outscored 5th ranked Antranik (8-10) 66-44 on Friday night. Worth to mention a quality performance of Perla Nasr who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side Stephany Haddad responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 15 rebounds. Homentmen have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 14-3 record having five points less than leader Club Beirut. Loser Antranik B. keeps the fifth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Hoops.

In the last two games of round 16 Chiyah was defeated by Almtayleb in a road game 73-62. Champs beat Taadod at home 41-33.

NSA - Hoops 49-45

The game in was also worth to mention about. 6th ranked Hoops (8-10) played at the court of eighth ranked NSA (5-13). NSA managed to secure a 4-point victory 49-45. NSA held Hoops to an opponent 23.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 37.3 percent accuracy of the winners. NSA had a 40-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Rachelle Aoun who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points, 14 rebounds and 4 blocks. Jana Ghossain contributed with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Lara Nakib replied with 16 points and 5 rebounds and Maryam Jomaa added 12 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Hoops. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Newly promoted NSA maintains eighth position with 5-13 record. Hoops at the other side dropped to the fifth place with ten games lost. They share the position with Antranik.

Almtayleb - Chiyah 73-62

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Chiyah (3-15) was defeated on the road by seventh ranked Almtayleb (6-11) 73-62 on Thursday. Almtayleb forced 20 Chiyah turnovers and had a 34-19 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Mathilda Khalil who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and Catharina Imad who added 12 points and 10 rebounds during the contest. Almtayleb's coach Nelly Nassar used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side Sabine Fakherddine responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and Celine Saade scored 20 points and 4 steals. Almtayleb maintains seventh position with 6-11 record. Chiyah lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth place with 15 games lost.

Champs - Taadod 41-33

No shocking result in a game when fourth ranked Champs (10-7) defeated at home bottom-ranked Taadod (1-17) 41-33 on Thursday. Worth to mention a great performance of Australian Alice Sabine who helped to win the game recording 8 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Sandra Beddawi (168-1992) who added 8 points during the contest. At the losing side Sandra Sleiman responded with 6 points and 12 rebounds and Lynn Abdallah scored 5 points and 8 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Champs maintains fourth position with 10-7 record. Taadod lost fifteenth consecutive game. Taadod at the other side, also newcomer in the league, stay dead last with 17 lost games.
