WLBL Round 15 (Regular Season): Hoops are defeated by Club Beirut in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Beirut: Club Beirut (#1) and Hoops (#5). Hoops were crushed at home by 21 points 50-71 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Hoops. They outrebounded Hoops 47-22 including a 21-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for the former international forward Aida Bakhos (178-1986, college: Lamar) who led her team to a victory scoring 19 points and 8 rebounds. Jocelyne Geara helped adding 17 points. The best for the losing side was Maryam Jomaa with 13 points and 4 assists. Hoops' coach Ziad Al Natour gave up on the game allowing to play twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Undefeated Club Beirut (17-0) have an impressive series of seventeen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with a perfect record of 17 victories in a row. Hoops at the other side keep the fifth position with nine games lost. They share it with Antranik. Club Beirut's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Beirut Al Riyadi.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Beirut. Second ranked host Al Riyadi (15-1) smashed 4th placed Champs (9-7) 74-33. It was an exceptional evening for the former international point guard Rebecca Akl (170-1992) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals (went 10 for 10 at the free throw line !!!). Reem El Ghali accounted for 17 points and 10 rebounds. The former international forward Nancy Maalouf (174-1988) came up with 8 points and 11 rebounds for Champs in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Al Riyadi. They maintain second place with 15-1 record having just three points less than leader Club Beirut. Newly promoted Champs keep the fourth position with seven games lost. Al Riyadi's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Beirut to the arena Club Beirut.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 15: NSA lost to Antranik on the opponent's court 49-64. Chiyah was outscored by Homentmen in a home game 35-73. Almtayleb managed to beat Taadod on the road 52-35.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 27 points and 6 steals by Mathilda Khalil of Almtayleb.

Antranik B. - NSA 64-49

Rather expected game in Beirut where 8th ranked NSA (4-13) was defeated by sixth ranked Antranik (8-9) 64-49. Antranik dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to NSA's 22. Antranik forced 19 NSA turnovers and outrebounded them 61-32 including a 24-11 advantage in offensive rebounds. NSA was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for Stephany Haddad who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 21 rebounds. Serena Hachem accounted for 11 points and 13 rebounds for the winning side. Melissa Chedid came up with 14 points and 7 steals and Jana Ghossain added 10 points and 5 rebounds respectively for NSA in the defeat. NSA's coach Badih Souaid rotated twelve players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Antranik moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Hoops. Newly promoted NSA keeps the eighth position with 13 games lost. Antranik will play against higher ranked Homentmen (#3) in Antelias in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. NSA will play at home against Hoops (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Very predictable result when third ranked Homentmen (13-3) smashed on the road 9th ranked Chiyah (3-14) 73-35. Homentmen forced 21 Chiyah turnovers and outrebounded them 53-35 including a 21-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for Patil Assadourian (174-2004) who led the winners and scored 22 points and 7 rebounds. Perla Nasr accounted for 12 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side. Pia Khattar came up with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and Reem Hajj added 4 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Chiyah in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Homentmen maintains third place with 13-3 record having five points less than leader Club Beirut. Chiyah lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the ninth position with 14 games lost. Homentmen will play against Antranik (#5) in Beirut in the next round. Not a big story in a game when 10th ranked Taadod (1-16) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Almtayleb (5-11) 52-35. It was an exceptional evening for Mathilda Khalil who led the winners and scored 27 points and 6 steals. Yasmina Samra accounted for 12 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. Lynn Abdallah came up with 7 points and 8 rebounds and Sandra Sleiman added 4 points and 6 rebounds respectively for Taadod in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Almtayleb maintains seventh place with 5-11 record. Taadod lost their fourteenth game in a row. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Almtayleb will play against Chiyah (#9) in the next round. Taadod will play against Champs to get more than just one victory in their record.
