WLBL Round 14 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Hoops' defeat of Antranik

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Beirut: Hoops (#6) and Antranik B. (#5). Hoops (8-8) won against visiting Antranik B. (7-9) 44-39. Hoops forced 24 Antranik turnovers. Yasmine Lahoud orchestrated the victory by scoring 11 points and 8 rebounds. Lara Nakib contributed with 12 points for the winners. Serena Hachem replied with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds for Antranik. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Hoops have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place. Antranik at the other side dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. Hoops' supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Beirut Club Beirut.
An interesting game for Club Beirut (16-0) which hosted in Beirut 4th ranked Champs (9-6). Top-ranked Club Beirut had an easy win 59-36. The former international guard Miramar Mokdad (170-1987) had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Nathalie Sevadjian chipped in 17 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. The former international forward Nancy Maalouf (174-1988) responded with 5 points and 10 rebounds. Champs' coach Patrick Saba gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Undefeated Club Beirut have an impressive 16-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 16-0 record. Newly promoted Champs keep the fourth place with six games lost. Club Beirut's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Beirut to the arena Hoops.
The game in supposed to be also quite interesting. Second ranked Al Riyadi (14-1) played at the court of 7th ranked Almtayleb (4-11). Al Riyadi smashed Almtayleb 103-38 on Tuesday. Chirine El Charif notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort. Even 12 points by Mathilda Khalil did not help to save the game for Almtayleb. Almtayleb's coach Nelly Nassar already knew that her team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Al Riyadi have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 14-1 record having just three points less than leader Club Beirut. Almtayleb lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with 11 games lost. Al Riyadi will meet at home Champs (#4) in the next round. Almtayleb will play against Taadod and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 14 bottom-ranked Taadod was smashed by Homentmen on the road 72-33. NSA won against Chiyah on its own court 46-37.

Homentmen A. - Taadod 72-33

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Homentmen (12-3) crushed bottom-ranked Taadod (1-15) in Antelias 72-33 on Monday. Homentmen forced 24 Taadod turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Taadod's players. Perla Nasr notched 19 points and 5 rebounds to lead the effort and Patil Assadourian (174-2004) supported her with 20 points. Even 3 points and 7 rebounds by Sandra Sleiman did not help to save the game for Taadod. Riwa Houssari added 9 points for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Homentmen maintains third position with 12-3 record having five points less than leader Club Beirut. Taadod lost thirteenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with 15 games lost. Homentmen will meet Chiyah (#9) in the next round where they are favorite. Taadod will play against Almtayleb and hope to win that game.

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked NSA and 8th ranked Chiyah had identical 3-12 record. This time NSA used a home court advantage and defeated the opponent from 46-37 on Monday night. NSA held Chiyah to an opponent 22.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 32.8 percent accuracy of the winners. NSA forced 25 Chiyah turnovers and outrebounded them 42-31 including 29 on the defensive glass. Rachelle Aoun notched 6 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and Jana Ghossain supported her with 8 points and 6 rebounds. NSA's coach Badih Souaid used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even 15 points and 6 rebounds by Pia Khattar did not help to save the game for Chiyah. Maria Khoury added 2 points and 14 rebounds for the guests. NSA (4-12) moved-up to eighth place. Chiyah lost fourth consecutive game. Chiyah at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the ninth position with 13 games lost. NSA will meet higher ranked Antranik (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Chiyah will play against Homentmen and hope to secure a win.

Al Riyadi dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Almtayleb's 26. Al Riyadi forced 27 Almtayleb turnovers and outrebounded them 50-25 including a 20-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Al Riyadi looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Almtayleb's players. The former international center Chirine El Charif (184-1984) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the effort and Reem El Ghali supported her with 26 points. Four Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. Even 12 points by Mathilda Khalil did not help to save the game for Almtayleb. Catharina Imad added 5 points and 9 rebounds for the hosts.
