WLBL Round 12 (Regular Season): Champs lose to Homentmen in the game between Top 4 teams

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The game between Top Four teams took place in Antelias. Third ranked host Homentmen (11-2) smashed one of their biggest challengers Champs (8-5) 69-41. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Champs. Homentmen held Champs to an opponent 25.0 percent shooting from the field compared to 37.9 percent accuracy of the winners and made 19-of-22 free shots (86.4 percent) during the game. Homentmen outrebounded Champs 47-26 including a 33-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of Perla Nasr who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds and Patil Assadourian (174-2004) who added 25 points (went 11 for 11 at the free throw line !!!) during the contest. The best for the losing side was the former international forward Nancy Maalouf (174-1988) with 13 points and 9 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Homentmen maintains third position with 11-2 record having four points less than leader Club Beirut. Newly promoted Champs keep the fourth place with five games lost. Homentmen are looking forward to face league's second-placed Al Riyadi in Beirut in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Champs will play against Almtayleb and are hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.

The winners were led by Jocelyne Geara who scored that evening 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Daniella Fayad supported her with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Even 22 points by Yasmina Samra did not help to save the game for Almtayleb. Almtayleb's coach Nelly Nassar gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Undefeated Club Beirut have an impressive 14-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 14-0 record. Almtayleb lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh place with nine games lost. Club Beirut's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Beirut to the arena Antranik.
9th ranked NSA (2-12) was outscored at home by second ranked Al Riyadi (12-1) with the biggest margin this round 86-32 on Saturday night. The best player for the winners was Tamara Khalil who had a triple-double by scoring 15 points, 14 rebounds, 10 assists and 7 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was Melissa Chedid who recorded 10 points and 5 rebounds. NSA's coach Badih Souaid already knew that her team would not have a big chance, so allowed to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Al Riyadi have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 12-1 record having just three points less than leader Club Beirut. Newly promoted NSA keeps the ninth place with 12 games lost. Al Riyadi will meet at home Homentmen (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. NSA will play against Taadod (#10) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last two games of round 12 Chiyah lost to Antranik on the opponent's court 35-53. Hoops managed to outperform Taadod in a home game 55-37.

Club Beirut - Almtayleb 82-32

WLBL top team - Club Beirut (14-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Almtayleb (4-9) 82-32. Club Beirut outrebounded Almtayleb 43-25 including a 20-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Club Beirut players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The winners were led by Jocelyne Geara who scored that evening 19 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists and the former international swingman Daniella Fayad (180-1997) supported her with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Four Club Beirut players scored in double figures. Even 22 points by Yasmina Samra did not help to save the game for Almtayleb. Nelly Nassra added 2 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Rather expected game in Beirut where 8th ranked Chiyah (3-11) was defeated by fifth ranked Antranik (7-7) 53-35 on Thursday. Antranik held Chiyah to an opponent 17.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.6 percent accuracy of the winners. The best player for the winners was Tracy Atallah who scored 18 points and 5 rebounds. Stephany Haddad chipped in 6 points, 15 rebounds and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was Pia Khattar who recorded a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds and Sabine Fakherddine added 1 points and 10 rebounds respectively. Antranik maintains fifth position with 7-7 record. Newly promoted Chiyah keeps the eighth place with 11 games lost. Antranik's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Beirut Club Beirut.

Rather predictable result in Beirut where sixth ranked Hoops (6-8) defeated bottom-ranked Taadod (1-13) 55-37 on Saturday. Hoops held Taadod to an opponent 24.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 30.2 percent accuracy of the winners. Hoops forced 21 Taadod turnovers. The best player for the winners was Maryam Jomaa who scored 19 points and 5 rebounds. Marianne Machmouchi chipped in 8 points. Hoops' coach Ziad Al Natour used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Lynn Abdallah who recorded a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds and Sandra Sleiman added 6 points and 12 rebounds respectively. Hoops maintains sixth position with 6-8 record. Taadod lost eleventh consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom place with 13 games lost. Hoops will meet Chiyah (#8) in the next round. Taadod will play against NSA and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Al Riyadi dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to NSA's 22 and made 16-of-21 free shots (76.2 percent) during the game. Al Riyadi forced 38 NSA turnovers and outrebounded them 52-30 including a 29-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Al Riyadi looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by NSA's players.
