WLBL Round 11 (Regular Season): Derby game ends with Al Riyadi's defeat of Hoops

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Beirut: Al Riyadi (#2) and Hoops (#6). Al Riyadi (11-1) crushed visiting Hoops (5-8) by 53 points 90-37. Al Riyadi dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Hoops' 20 and made 18-of-21 free shots (85.7 percent) during the game. Al Riyadi forced 25 Hoops turnovers and outrebounded them 47-22 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Al Riyadi looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The former international point guard Rebecca Akl (170-1992) orchestrated the victory with a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 16 rebounds, 12 assists and 4 steals. Reem El Ghali contributed with 17 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Maryam Jomaa answered with 13 points and 6 rebounds for Hoops. Hoops' coach Ziad Al Natour gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Al Riyadi have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 11-1 record having just three points less than leader Club Beirut. Hoops lost fourth consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with eight games lost. Al Riyadi are looking forward to face NSA (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Hoops will play against Taadod and are hoping to prove to their supporters that they can break losing series.
WLBL top team - Club Beirut (13-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Chiyah (3-10) 82-37. It was a great evening for the former international forward Aida Bakhos (178-1986, college: Lamar) who led her team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Leila Abi Ghosn helped adding 10 points and 14 rebounds. Tala Kambriss responded with 12 points. Undefeated Club Beirut have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 13-0 record. Newly promoted Chiyah keeps the eighth position with ten games lost. Club Beirut will play against Almtayleb (#7) in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Chiyah will play against Antranik in Beirut and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in supposed to be also quite interesting. Third ranked Homentmen (10-2) played at the court of 7th ranked Almtayleb (4-8). Homentmen smashed Almtayleb 91-53 on Tuesday. It was an exceptional evening for Patil Assadourian who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 31 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 8 steals (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). Mathilda Khalil came up with 25 points for Almtayleb in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Homentmen maintains third place with 10-2 record having four points less than leader Club Beirut. Almtayleb at the other side keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Homentmen will meet at home Champs (#4) in the next round. Almtayleb will play against the league's leader Club Beirut and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 11 Antranik beat Taadod on the road 35-29. Champs won against NSA on its own court 50-38.

Chiyah - Club Beirut 37-82

WLBL top team - Club Beirut (13-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed eighth ranked Chiyah (3-10) 82-37. Club Beirut held Chiyah to an opponent 20.3 percent shooting from the field compared to 40.5 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Chiyah 54-30 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Club Beirut players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 8 passes made by Chiyah's players. It was a great evening for the former international forward Aida Bakhos (178-1986, college: Lamar) who led her team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. Taadod - Antranik B. 29-35

No shocking result in a game when fifth ranked Antranik (6-7) beat on the road bottom-ranked Taadod (1-12) 35-29 on Sunday. Antranik held Taadod to an opponent 21.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 26.1 percent accuracy of the winners. Antranik forced 26 Taadod turnovers. It was an exceptional evening for Stephany Haddad who led the winners and scored 8 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. Erica Khoury accounted for 8 points for the winning side. Lynn Abdallah came up with 14 points and 8 rebounds and Sandra Sleiman added 1 points and 14 rebounds respectively for Taadod in the defeat. Antranik maintains fifth place with 6-7 record. Taadod lost their tenth game in a row. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with 12 games lost. Antranik will meet at home Chiyah (#8) in the next round. Taadod will play against Hoops in Beirut and hope to win that game.

Champs - NSA 50-38

Very expected game when 9th ranked NSA (2-11) lost on the road to fourth ranked Champs (8-4) 50-38 on Monday. Champs forced 19 NSA turnovers and outrebounded them 41-24 including 16 on the offensive glass. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Nancy Maalouf (174-1988) who led the winners and scored 4 points and 14 rebounds. Joyce Saliba (178-1988) accounted for 13 points for the winning side. Jana Ghossain came up with 9 points and Zeina El Hajj added 5 points respectively for NSA in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Champs. Newly promoted Champs maintains fourth place with 8-4 record. NSA at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the ninth position with 11 games lost. Champs will meet higher ranked Homentmen (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. NSA will play against the league's second-placed Al Riyadi (#2) and hope to secure a win.
