WLBL Round 9 (Regular Season): Almtayleb defeat Hoops in the closest game of the week

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 6th ranked Hoops (5-6) to seventh ranked Almtayleb (4-6) 77-76 on Thursday evening. Almtayleb forced 22 Hoops turnovers. Strangely Hoops outrebounded Almtayleb 50-36 including a 31-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Hoops helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Mathilda Khalil stepped up and scored 31 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and Yasmina Samra chipped in 20 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 steals. Almtayleb's coach Nelly Nassar used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was Maryam Jomaa with 17 points and 6 rebounds. Almtayleb maintains seventh place with 4-6 record. Hoops at the other side dropped to the fifth position with six games lost. They share it with Antranik.
WLBL top team - Club Beirut (11-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed tenth ranked Taadod (1-10) 74-32. The former international swingman Daniella Fayad (180-1997) nailed 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winning side and Miramar Mokdad accounted for 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Sandra Sleiman came up with 6 points and 5 rebounds for Taadod in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Club Beirut have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 11-0 record. Taadod lost eighth consecutive game. Newly promoted team stay at the bottom position with ten games lost. They share it with NSA.

The best player for the winners was Miramar Mokdad who scored 13 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Club Beirut's coach Gilbert Nasrgilbertnasr felt very confident using 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Jana Ghossain who recorded 8 points. The victory was the eleventh consecutive win for Club Beirut. Defending champion maintains first place with 11-0 record. Newly promoted NSA keeps the ninth position with ten games lost. They share it with Taadod.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 9: NSA was destroyed by Homentmen on the opponent's court 86-30. Champs managed to outperform Antranik in a home game 48-40. Chiyah was rolled over Al Riyadi on the road 105-44.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 12 points and 8 rebounds by Melody Saneh of Club Beirut.

Homentmen A. - NSA 86-30

Very expected game in Antelias where 9th ranked NSA (1-10) was crushed by third ranked Homentmen (9-1) 86-30 on Sunday. Homentmen held NSA to an opponent 18.8 percent shooting from the field compared to 43.7 percent accuracy of the winners. Homentmen forced 25 NSA turnovers and had a 37-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. Homentmen looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by NSA's players. The best player for the winners was Perla Nasr who scored 17 points and 8 rebounds. Patil Assadourian (174-2004) chipped in 25 points (on 10-of-13 shooting from the field). At the other side the best for losing team was Maha Achkar who recorded 8 points and 9 rebounds and Rachelle Aoun added 2 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Homentmen. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Riyadi. Newly promoted NSA keeps the ninth position with ten games lost. They share it with Taadod.

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourth ranked Champs' (6-4) home victory over 5th ranked Antranik (5-6) 48-40 on Saturday. Not a big story in a game in Beirut where 8th ranked Chiyah (2-9) was rolled over by second ranked Al Riyadi (9-1) 105-44 on Sunday. Al Riyadi dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Chiyah's 24. Al Riyadi forced 26 Chiyah turnovers and outrebounded them 62-29 including a 26-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. Al Riyadi looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 6 passes made by Chiyah's players. The best player for the winners was Reem El Ghali who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 19 rebounds. The former international center Chirine El Charif (184-1984) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was Rita Krikorian who recorded 14 points and Tala Kambriss added 10 points respectively.
