WLBL Round 7 (Regular Season): Club Beirut hands first defeat to Al Riyadi

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of undefeated Al Riyadi (7-1) at the home court on Tuesday night. Hosts were edged by Club Beirut (9-0) 56-53. It ended at the same time the seven-game winning streak of Al Riyadi. The former international forward Aida Bakhos (178-1986, college: Lamar) fired 18 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. The former international Nathalie Sevadjian (170-1988) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. The former international point guard Rebecca Akl (170-1992) produced 28 points and 6 rebounds for lost side. Undefeated Club Beirut have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 9-0 record. Al Riyadi at the other side keeps the second position with one game lost. They share it with Homentmen. Club Beirut are looking forward to face NSA (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Riyadi will play against Taadod (#10) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
The game in Beirut was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Homentmen (7-1) played at the court of 6th ranked Antranik (4-5). Homentmen managed to secure a 4-point victory 57-53. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Antranik B.. Worth to mention a great performance of Patil Assadourian (174-2004) who helped to win the game recording 32 points and 5 rebounds. Perla Nasr contributed with 6 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Homentmen A.'s coach Georges Dagher allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. Jessy Feghali answered with 18 points and 8 rebounds for Antranik. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Homentmen. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Al Riyadi. Antranik at the other side keeps the sixth position with five games lost. Homentmen will play against Hoops (#4) in Beirut in the next round. Antranik will play against Almtayleb and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game with biggest result difference took place in . Local Taadod (1-8) was outscored by seventh ranked Champs (4-4) 61-27 on Wednesday night. Worth to mention a quality performance of Elsy Ghnatios who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 assists and 7 steals. At the losing side Sandra Sleiman responded with 5 points and 14 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Champs moved-up to fifth place. Taadod lost their sixth game in a row. Taadod at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the bottom position with eight games lost. They share it with NSA. Champs will meet Chiyah (#8) in the next round. Taadod will play against the league's second-placed Al Riyadi and hope to win that game.

In the last two games of round 7 Almtayleb was crushed by Chiyah in a road game 61-40. Hoops beat NSA at home 47-33.

There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Almtayleb (3-5) was crushed on the road by ninth ranked Chiyah (2-7) 61-40 on Wednesday. Chiyah held Almtayleb to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.2 percent accuracy of the winners. They outrebounded Almtayleb 46-34 including a 35-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Pia Khattar who led her team to a victory scoring 26 points and 5 rebounds. Maria Khoury helped adding 11 points and 15 rebounds. At the losing side Mathilda Khalil responded with 20 points and 4 assists and Yasmina Samra scored 14 points and 8 rebounds. Chiyah moved-up to eighth place. Loser Almtayleb keeps the seventh position with five games lost. Chiyah will meet at home higher ranked Champs (#5) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Almtayleb will play against Antranik in Beirut and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

No shocking result in a game in Beirut where fifth ranked Hoops (5-4) defeated 10th ranked NSA (1-8) 47-33 on Thursday. Hoops held NSA to an opponent 24.5 percent shooting from the field compared to 29.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Hoops forced 23 NSA turnovers. It was a great evening for Maryam Jomaa who led her team to a victory scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Yasmine Lahoud helped adding 5 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side Rachelle Aoun responded with 2 points and 14 rebounds and Zeina El Hajj scored 3 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Hoops moved-up to fourth place. NSA lost their eighth game in a row. Newly promoted team dropped to the ninth position with eight games lost. They share it with Taadod. Hoops will meet at home higher ranked Homentmen (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. NSA will play against the league's leader Club Beirut (#1) and hope to win that game.
