WLBL Round 6 (Regular Season): Club Beirut keep a leadership position

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Club Beirut as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Club Beirut smashed 4th ranked Hoops at home 84-62. Club Beirut outrebounded Hoops 45-29 including 34 on the defensive glass. Club Beirut looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Hoops' players. Jocelyne Geara scored 20 points to lead the charge for the winners and the former international forward Aida Bakhos (178-1986, college: Lamar) chipped in 7 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists during the contest. The best for the losing side was Maryam Jomaa with 24 points, 6 assists and 4 steals. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Club Beirut (8-0) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Hoops at the other side keep the fourth place with four games lost. They share the position with Antranik. Hoops will play next round against NSA trying to get back on the winning streak. Club Beirut will try to continue on its current victory against second ranked Al Riyadi. It will be extra interesting game as Al Riyadi is their local rival from Beirut.
Bottom-ranked NSA (0-7) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their seventh consecutive match to seventh ranked Antranik (4-4) 63-45. Racha Kalot notched 24 points to lead the effort and Stephany Haddad supported her with 6 points, 15 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Even 10 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists by Jana Ghossain did not help to save the game for NSA. Antranik moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Hoops. Newly promoted NSA still closes the standings with seven games lost. Antranik will play against higher ranked Homentmen (#3) in Antelias in the next round and it may be the game of the week. NSA will play on the road against Hoops (#5) in Beirut and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 6 Taadod lost to Almtayleb on the opponent's court 53-68. Homentmen managed to outperform Chiyah in a home game 61-47.

Almtayleb - Taadod 68-53

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Taadod's (1-6) road loss to seventh ranked Almtayleb (3-4) 53-68. Almtayleb forced 28 Taadod turnovers. Yasmina Samra notched 23 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals to lead the effort and Mathilda Khalil supported her with 24 points, 6 assists and 7 steals. Even a double-double of 15 points, 10 rebounds and 5 blocks by Lynn Abdallah did not help to save the game for Taadod. Nour Arabi added 19 points. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Almtayleb moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Champs. Taadod lost fourth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the eighth position with six games lost. Almtayleb will play against Chiyah (#9) in the next round. Taadod will play against Champs and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Very predictable result in Antelias where third ranked Homentmen (6-1) defeated 9th ranked Chiyah (1-7) 61-47. Homentmen forced 21 Chiyah turnovers. Patil Assadourian (174-2004) notched 32 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 6 steals to lead the effort and Lynn Hokayem supported her with 8 points and 6 rebounds. Even 17 points and 5 rebounds by Rita Krikorian did not help to save the game for Chiyah. Pia Khattar added 13 points and 5 rebounds. Homentmen have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 6-1 record having just three points less than leader Club Beirut. Newly promoted Chiyah keeps the ninth place with seven games lost. Homentmen will play against Antranik (#4) in Beirut in the next round. Chiyah will play against Almtayleb (#6) to get more than just one victory in their record.
