LBL Round 15: Homentmen surrender against Champville - Mar 11, 2019

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

There was a change at the LBL leadership position after last games. Round 15 most important game was a defeat of league's leader Homentmen (10-3). They were defeated by second ranked Champville (11-2) 96-80 on Friday night. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Homentmen. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Champville made 23-of-26 free shots (88.5 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Homentmen 50-32 including a 25-14 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great evening for Iranian center Hamed Haddadi (218-85) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 17 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international forward Fadi El-Khatib (198-79) helped adding 30 points. Champville's coach Fuad Abou Chakra used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) with 34 points (!!!). Champville have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They keep a position of league leader. Defending champion Homentmen dropped to the second place with three games lost. They were replaced at the leadership position by Champville.
Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Beirut: Beirut Club (#4) and Hoops Club (#5). Hoops Club was crushed at home by 17 points 64-81 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Ali Haidar (201-90, college: Michigan Tech) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Quincy Douby accounted for 21 points and 4 assists. The former international Bilal Tabbara (198-93) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds for Hoops Club in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Beirut Club. They maintain fourth place with 9-4 record. Newly promoted Hoops Club keeps the fifth position with eight games lost. They share it with Atlas F. and Moutahed.

In the last game of round 15 Moutahed won against Sagesse on the opponent's court 70-65.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists by Ramel Curry of Sagesse.



Hoops - Beirut Club 64-81

Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Beirut: Beirut Club (#4) and Hoops Club (#5). Hoops Club was crushed at home by 17 points 64-81 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Beirut Club players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. It was an exceptional evening for the former international forward Ali Haidar (201-90, college: Michigan Tech) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Quincy Douby (190-84, college: Rutgers) accounted for 21 points and 4 assists for the winning side. The former international Bilal Tabbara (198-93) came up with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds and Ali Mansour (-98) added 19 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Hoops Club in the defeat. Sagesse - Moutahed 65-70

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 9th ranked Sagesse's (1-11) home loss to eighth ranked Al Moutahed (4-8) 65-70. Al Moutahed outrebounded Sagesse 45-27 including a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Marvelle Harris (196-93, college: Fresno St., agency: Slash Sports) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 11 rebounds. His fellow American import power forward Brandon Mobley (206-91, college: Seton Hall) accounted for 21 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. American guard Ramel Curry (191-80, college: CSU Bakersfield) came up with 25 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists and Canadian power forward Keanau Post (211-92, college: Missouri, agency: Slash Sports) added 18 points and 9 rebounds respectively for Sagesse in the defeat. Sagesse's coach Ghassan Sarkis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Al Moutahed moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Atlas F. and Hoops. Sagesse lost their tenth game in a row. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost.

Coincidentally all hosts won their games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL. The most interesting game was a derby match between two local teams from Beirut: Beirut Club (#4) and Homentmen (#3). Beirut Club (11-4) won against visiting Homentmen (11-4) 86-81. AARON NELSON 27-year old forward Aaron Nelson (205-F-91) put on an amazing game in the last round for Byblos and receives a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 17. He had a double-double of 27 points and 19 rebounds, while his team beat Moutahed (#8, 4-10) 84-76. Byblos is placed at 5th position in Lebanese league.
