The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with change at the leadership position, derby games and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The biggest surprise of round 3 in LBL took place in Beirut where host Beirut Club (3-1) beat Al Riyadi (3-1) 100-95 on Monday evening. Beirut Club forced 24 Al Riyadi turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American guard Chris Crawford (193-92, college: Memphis) who had a triple-double by scoring 27 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists. The former international forward Ali Haidar (201-90, college: Michigan Tech) chipped in 17 points, 12 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was naturalized Egyptian power forward Ahmad Ismail (205-76) who recorded 28 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists.
Homentmen defeated Hoops Club in Beirut 94-82. It was a good game for the former international swingman Elias Rustom (197-87) who led his team to a victory with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Michael Efevberha contributed with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American forward Dikembe Dixson (201-96, college: Ill.-Chicago) answered with 30 points and 4 steals for Hoops Club. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games.
Champville (3-1) recorded a loss in Beirut on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by Al Riyadi (3-1) 72-69. It was a great evening for Mark Lyons who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points and 6 assists. The best for the losing side was Ater Majok with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 16 rebounds and 7 blocks (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field).
The game in Zahle was also worth to mention about. Homentmen (3-0) played at the court of Atlas F. (1-2). Homentmen managed to secure a 6-point victory 90-84. It was an exceptional evening for Walter Hodge who led the winners and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Atlas F.'s coach Elie Nasr rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.

The best player for the winners was Fadi El-Khatib who scored 31 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games.

In the last two games of round 3 winless Hoops were crushed by Byblos in a road game 90-68. Atlas F. were beaten by Moutahed at home 76-85.



Al Riyadi - Champville 72-69

Champville (3-1) recorded a loss in Beirut on Sunday night. Visitors were edged by Al Riyadi (3-1) 72-69. Strangely Champville outrebounded Al Riyadi 44-25 including a 33-20 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great evening for American guard Mark Lyons (185-89, college: Arizona, agency: Higher Vision Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 16 points and 6 assists. Naturalized Egyptian power forward Ahmad Ismail (205-76) helped adding 10 points and 9 rebounds. The best for the losing side was international center Ater Majok (208-87, college: Connecticut) with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 16 rebounds and 7 blocks (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) and American forward Dewayne Jackson (203-90, college: Morgan St., agency: Higher Vision Sports) scored 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists.

Atlas F. - Homentmen 84-90

The game in Zahle was also worth to mention about. Homentmen (3-0) played at the court of Atlas F. (1-2). Homentmen managed to secure a 6-point victory 90-84. Homentmen made 18-of-22 charity shots (81.8 percent) during the game. It was an exceptional evening for U.S. Virgin Islands-Puerto Rican point guard Walter Hodge (183-86, college: Florida) who led the winners and scored 21 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Nigerian-American guard Michael Efevberha (193-84, college: CS Northridge, agency: Octagon Europe) accounted for 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winning side. Five Homentmen players scored in double figures. American power forward Darian Townes (208-84, college: Arkansas) came up with a double-double by scoring 31 points and 13 rebounds and the other American import guard Ghassan Nehme (190, college: Fair Dickinson) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for Atlas F. in the defeat. Atlas F.'s coach Elie Nasr rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.

Byblos - Hoops 90-68

Byblos used a home court advantage and crushed the opponent from Beirut 90-68 on Monday night. Byblos outrebounded Hoops Club 47-32 including a 36-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. The best player for the winners was American forward Aaron Nelson (205-91, college: S.Indiana) who had a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds. His fellow American import forward Malcolm Riley (196-93, college: Texas Southern) chipped in 20 points and 9 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Dikembe Dixson (201-96, college: Ill.-Chicago) who recorded 22 points and the former international guard Geron Johnson (190-92, college: Memphis) added 11 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Hoops Club's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win.

There was a small surprise in Zahle where Al Moutahed (1-2) defeated Atlas F. (1-2) 85-76 on Saturday. Strangely Atlas F. outrebounded Al Moutahed 45-33 including 32 on the defensive glass. The game was dominated by American players. The best player for the winners was point guard Marvelle Harris (196-93, college: Fresno St., agency: Slash Sports) who scored 34 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds. Forward Travis Franklin (200-88, college: Colorado St.) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was power forward Darian Townes (208-84, college: Arkansas) who recorded a double-double by scoring 19 points and 21 rebounds and guard Ghassan Nehme (190, college: Fair Dickinson) added 17 points and 4 assists respectively. Four Atlas F. players scored in double figures.

The game with biggest result difference took place in Dik El Mehdi. Local Champville (3-1) outscored Byblos (1-3) 122-57 on Friday night. Champville dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Byblos' 34. Champville forced 25 Byblos turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 32 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Byblos' players. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Fadi El-Khatib (198-79) who scored 31 points, 7 rebounds and 9 assists. American forward Dewayne Jackson (203-90, college: Morgan St., agency: Higher Vision Sports) chipped in 28 points. Four Champville players scored in double figures.
