Eurobasket Feature Interview
1/2/2018

Lama Moukaddem (174-G/F-90) current player of Riyadi (Lebanon-D1), spoke in the past to Eurobasket.com: Feature Interview.

You are the classic example of hard work paying off. Just two years ago you were labeled as only a shooter. Today you are a skilled combo guard. What did you change?

First of all i would like to thank you guys at Eurobasket for all the exposure & effort you guys are doing to shed some light on the Women's league & making it more professional with your updates, articles & game stats.

A: The label ' shooter' is something i love to be called. The dedication, discipline , mental toughness & hard work that is put to become a shooter is something beyond what people imagine. It also puts you in a position where you will constantly be criticized & feel responsible to always score your shots & play your A game. In my personal opinion being a shooter is one of the most important weapons for any basketball player because you are always a threat on court. With time i learned to be more than just a shooter because some circumstances force you to play off position, where the team needs you most and it might be a place were you are least comfortable. As i matured in this game i realized that to become a complete player i have to have a little bit of everything! That's when i started working on becoming one & working on the things that i lacked.

The funny thing is that i was never a shooter in high school & my early years of playing professional basketball, i used to be a PG & slasher. When i joined Riyadi , my role was a shooter & that's were it all started.

Whats the difference in playing in Lebanon and the EEWBL?

A: The difference between playing in Lebanon & EEWBL is huge! First of all, it's Europe! The level of Basketball & the concept of this game is totally different than playing in Lebanon. You are playing against teams that have very skilled , talented & big sized locals! Topping that off with an open number of high level imports. The experience I am getting from this League is something to cherish & be proud of especially that we have great results so far (4 wins out of 5 games). Just putting Lebanon on the European map in basketball is enough for me to be proud of.

Playing in the Lebanese League is also something i wait for.. it is practically MY LIFE! It is were our role as locals is obviously bigger & more important. Playing in front of our fans & against other teams & their fans, winning & losing, going through the highs & the lows, the love & the hate, the social media critics, is just what i live for.

You are ranked by eurobasket the #2 overall player in your country. How does that make you feel and do you agree?

A. Being ranked by eurobasket as #2 overall player in the country is just so rewarding. It puts me in a position were i will never rest & be satisfied but instead work harder & harder to become an even more complete player & represent my country in the best way possible in the National Team.

Tell us your strong point and your weakness in your game.

A. I would say my strong point is my three point shot & my mental toughness. My weak point is my ball handling skills.

If you could pick a player to be your teammate in any team you play who would it be?

A. One player that i would love to have as a teammate on my team is Rebecca Akl (169-PG-92). A skilled & talented PG that brings the best out of any player on her team. I am very glad we spent 6 years as teammates & won alot of titles together.

The WLBL All-Star Game will be this February. You are by far one of the fan favorites. How does that make you feel?

A. I am very excited for the WLBL All Star game. It is always a pleasure to be part of any event for the benefit of this game. Being a Fans favorite is something i live for. I just love people & love interacting with people that share the same passion as i do. These fans are our inspiration & motive to keep pushing forward , improving our game & hustling on & off court. I am lucky & blessed to have such people around, they make this Game what it is!

Can we expect an All-Star MVP performance from Lama?

A. Well... you will have to wait & see.

The Federation of Lebanon decided to add two import players to the WLBL. This most by the federation very very intelligent. How do you feel this improves the game in Lebanon?

A. The best thing that has been done for this league was adding 2 imports. It raised the level of the league as a whole & it also improved the level of our games & practices. (whether playing with or against them). It became a more competitive league giving the chance to average teams to actually compete. It also gave us the chance to meet these girls & learn alot from their experience & their leadership.

Congrats on all your success and we wish you luck this season.

Thank you again for having me !

Much love,

LM #23
