For the third year in a row, Riyadi Beirut clinched the women's league championship after a five games series against Homenetmen Antelias. Both teams met in the final in the last three years but in this season, it was the toughest final, last year Riyadi won 3-0, and two years ago, the series ended 3-1 and the home court advantage was for Homenetmen Antelias back then.
Today's game was so competitive, Homenetmen took the lead earlier in the game, Nathalie Sevadjian dominating on the offence and Aida Bakhos on the defensive part. In the second quarter, Coach Elie Nasr switched the defense on Nathalie, putting Rebecca Akl who did amazing job limiting Sevadjian's performance and Riyadi took the lead at the end of this quarter. Homenetmen's level increased again in the third quarter and the Armenian team led the game till mid fourth quarter. Riyadi managed to tie the score (46-46) three minutes before the end of the game with some important points from Tamara Khalil and Rebecca Akl. The final score was 53-46.
Here are some stats from the last game: Riyadi: Shada Nasr: 16 points 6 rebounds 5 assists (Efficiency 19) Rebecca Akl: 16 points 4 rebounds 4 steals (Efficiency 14) Tamara Khalil: 12 points 12 rebounds (Efficiency 4)
Riyadi has now 3 league titles, above Homenetmen Beirut and Sagesse Mar Doumit, with two titles each but still Antranik leading the list with twelve titles.
The women's league is over this year, still the cup, last year Riyadi won the league and Homenetmen Antelias won the cup, we will see maybe the same scenario this year, but for sure the rivalry between both teams is growing up year after year and the level of our league is increasing progressively. Congrats Riyadi, congrats champions!
