Antranik one more time CHAMPION & CUP WINNER - May 2, 2011 After winning the semi Final series against Moutahed 3-0 , Antranik the womens champion for the past 8 consecutive years had once to meet Riyadi in the Final for the 2nd consecutive season. The Two teams were focused to have a good series , the Champs once again proved that they are too much to handle and they cruised into 3-0 win to retain the title for the 9th consecutive years and the 12th in the past 14 years ( since 1998). Despite playing without key and National Team Players Cherine Cherif , Nour Choucair and Christelle Chalouhi who are out with ACL injuries the Champions dominated once again the League without any loss , Riyadi had good games in the Final and sometimes during the games managed to put some pressure on Antranik but the big experience prevailed in the end. After winning the Championship Antranik met Riyadi also in the Cup Final , the two teams reached the Final after winning the semi final games , Antranik against Champville and Riyadi against Homentmen Antelias , this game was a consecration for Antraniks dominance they cruised into a big win which gave them the title of Cup Champion 2011. These 2 titles Antranik are added to the long list on titles won by the club for the past 14 years which can be resumed as follows: 12 League Titles ( 3 consecutives 98,99,2000, - 9 consecutives 03,04,05,06,07,08,09,10,11) 10 Cup Titles ( 98,99,2000,01,03,04,07,08,09,10,11) 2 Arab Clubs Championships ( 06,07) 1 West Asian Champion (07) 3 losses in 9 years Record of 555 wins & 3 losses in 9 years CHAOS IN THE WOMENS LEAGUE - Nov 13, 2010 Days, weeks or even months ahead of the womens dateless and undecided season, many question marks stand unanswered. Question marks of who? Why? When? cant find answers. Whos participating in the coming season? Antranik Beirut, Riyadi Beirut, Homenetmen Antelias, Mouttahed Tripoli and? The 4th of the past few seasons, Bourj Aintoura, havent decided in or out yet, arent planning on paying their players and have given them the right to leave or stay, the club cant care less about participating. Homenetmens Beirut and Bourj Hamoud have retreated already, leaving many talents behind. The champions of division 2, Antranik Sin El Fil, have called quits. The second of division 2, Champville, have plans on being in division 1 instead. Anibal have retreated since last season. Saint George are completely undecided. Why? Why cant Lebanese basketball have a respected womens league? Is it lack of talent? Is it lack of attention? Maybe, just maybe it is lack of management and lack of will to make a better league for the upcoming talents, starting this very day. When will the season be starting? Mid-November? Were there, yet teams havent handed in their rosters, dont know their competitors, and have no idea when things will be getting serious. Whos to blame? An unorganized league with unorganized rules and unorganized clubs. No fundamentals for teams to work upon, no foreigners allowed in teams, no media attention, its simply a total chaos, and no solutions seem to be coming anytime soon. by Roubina Alabashian . |
