Qatar’s Al-Adeem Women’s Basketball Team Celebrates Gulf Championship Silver Medal- September 28, 2025

The Qatar Women’s Basketball Federation warmly welcomed the Al-Adeem women’s basketball team upon their return to Doha, celebrating their remarkable achievement at the second edition of the Gulf Championship held in Abu Dhabi. Organized with the support of the Abu Dhabi Sports Council and under the gracious patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, “Mother of the Emirates,” and overseen by Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairperson of the Academy’s Board of Directors, the championship showcased the region’s top talent. Al-Adeem secured the silver medal after an impressive tournament run, narrowly falling to Kuwait’s Al-Fatat Sports Club in the final match with a score of 67-56, determining the first and second places. Oman’s Women’s Sports and Cultural Creativity Club claimed third place, defeating the UAE’s Fatima bint Mubarak Academy 56-46. The Qatari team delivered standout performances throughout the championship, highlighting the significant progress of women’s basketball in Qatar. Lebanese star Rebecca Akl shone brightly, leading her teammates with exceptional skill and determination. Despite the final loss, Akl’s technical prowess and leadership earned her the Best Player award in the championship game. The tournament featured four teams: Qatar’s Al-Adeem, Kuwait’s Al-Fatat Sports Club, Oman’s Women’s Sports and Cultural Creativity Club, and the UAE’s Fatima bint Mubarak Academy. The Al-Adeem delegation was led by head coach Rana Bazazo, fitness coach Milis Shadid, physiotherapist Maha Al-Raqiq, and team manager Saria Ranko. The roster included players Alaa Suleiman, Maya Al-Khatib, Nziha Agha, Sama Jasser, Sarah Maadid, Tanya Al-Taweel, Mona Suleiman, Dana Suleiman, and professional players Rebecca Akl from Lebanon and Tina Stevens from the United States. This achievement underscores Qatar’s growing prominence in women’s basketball on the regional stage, with Al-Adeem’s performance setting a strong foundation for future success. |
