Manama, Bahrain – July 31, 2025 Qatar’s reserve basketball team is set to take on Kuwait in the sixth round of the 26th Arab Basketball Championship on Friday, August 1, 2025, at 6:00 PM at Khalifa Sports City Arena in Bahrain. The tournament, hosted by Bahrain until August 2, features seven top Arab basketball teams: Qatar, Bahrain, Egypt, Tunisia, Algeria, the UAE, and Kuwait. Operating on a single-stage league system, the championship will crown the team with the highest points total at its conclusion.
Qatar’s reserve squad entered the tournament with high ambitions but faced stiff competition from the outset. Having played four matches so far, the team secured its first victory in the fourth round against the UAE, winning 78-71. This followed three consecutive losses: a 61-72 defeat to hosts Bahrain in the opener, a 69-90 loss to Egypt in the second round, and a 66-92 setback against Algeria in the third. These results have diminished Qatar’s chances of contending for the top spots. After five rounds, Tunisia leads the standings with 9 points, followed by Algeria with 8 points and the UAE with 7 points. Bahrain and Egypt are tied for fourth with 6 points each, while Qatar sits in sixth with 5 points, just above Kuwait, which trails with 4 points. As Qatar prepares to face Kuwait, the team is eager to build on its recent win to boost its points tally and climb the rankings. The coaching staff and players aim to leverage their newfound momentum to regain tactical balance ahead of their final match against table-topping Tunisia on Saturday, August 2. Qatar’s campaign will conclude with a challenging clash against Tunisia, the current leaders, in a match that promises to test the resolve of the Qatari side. The team is determined to end its participation on a high note, delivering a performance that reflects the aspirations of Qatari basketball on the Arab stage. |
