Al Arabi (D1) inked 31-year old Nigerian ex-international 211cm forward Daniel Ochefu (college: Villanova, agency: BIG). He is the second foreign player in the roster as USA Avi Toomer signed here earlier.
He played most recently at Al Jaish in Syrian SBL league. He also played for BIM Bishrelt Metal Ulaanbaatar (MBL) in Mongolian league. The other team he played shortly was Hsinchu Lioneers in Taiwanese PLeague+ where in only one game he had 4 points, 7 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals last season.
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
Ochefu also represented Nigeria at the Afrobasket Championship eight years ago. His team won Silver and he had 5 points per game.
He is a very experienced player. Ochefu has quite traveled the world as his pro career brought him to twelve different countries on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Japan (Robots), Korea (Samsung Thunders), Lebanon (Al Riyadi), Mexico (Libertadores), Philippines (TNT Tropang), Spain (Breogan Lugo), Taiwan, Venezuela (Gaiteros and Gladiadores), NBA (Boston Celtics, NY Knicks and Washington Wizards), NBA G League (Stockton Kings, Maine Celtics and Windy City Bulls) and The Basketball Tournament (Team 23 and Ochefuartfire).
Among many awards he played in the final of West Asia Super League Final 8 in 2023. He was voted to Asia-Basket.com All-Korean KBL Honorable Mention back in 2022.
Ochefu graduated from Villanova University in 2016 and it will be his ninth season in pro basketball.
