Kazma (D1) strengthened their roster with addition of 31-year old Canadian-Eritrean international 188cm guard Johnny Berhanemeskel (college: Ottawa). Berhanemeskel represented Canada at the World University Games in Gwangju (South Korea) nine years ago. During this event he scored an average of 11.1 points per game and had 1.8 rebounds per game.
He is a very experienced player. Berhanemeskel has played also professionally in Canada (Blackjacks), Estonia (Tallinn Kalev), France (Chorale de Roanne, JSF Nanterre and Boulazac Basket), Germany (Eisbaeren Bremerhaven), Greece (Larissa BC), Spain (Zaragoza and Araberri) and Ukraine (Budivelnyk).
Among many awards his team made it to the CEBL Semifinals in 2021. He was selected to Eurobasket.com Spanish LEB Gold All-Imports Team back in 2017.
Berhanemeskel graduated from University of Ottawa in 2015 and it will be his tenth season in pro basketball. He played also for Loyola Hawks for one year.
