Al Qadsia (D1) has added experienced 36-year-old American power forward Chinemelu Elonu (206cm-107kg-1987, college: Texas A&M) to their roster for the 2023-24 season. Elonu played last season for Capitanes de Arecibo in the Puerto Rican BSN league, where he averaged 7.7ppg, 11.0rpg, and 3.0bpg in three games. Prior to that, he played for Jahraa.
In 2009, he was drafted by the Los Angeles Lakers (NBA) in the second round (59th overall). He graduated from Texas A&M University, and this is his 15th season in professional basketball.
He's a very experienced player. Elonu has played in eight different countries, allowing him to visit five different continents. He has played professionally in China (Monkey Kings), France (Pau Lacq Orthez), Greece (Panionios and AEK Athens), Italy (Reggio Emilia), Spain (Zaragoza), Turkey (Tofas and Besiktas), and Egypt (Zamalek).
In 2022, his team reached the Puerto Rican BSN Semifinals, earning them numerous awards. Additionally, he was selected to play in the Puerto Rican BSN All-Star Game. There is a high likelihood that he will retire from playing at Qadsia.
