Kuwait Club defeated Manama 87-78 in the opening game of the best-of-three finals of the Fiba West Asia Super League (WASL-Gulf) at the Saad Al Abdulla Arena in Kuwait City last night. Kuwait Club got off to a dominant start, as they took the opening quarter 24-16 and led 43-30 at half-time. Manama launched a fightback after the interval as they took the third quarter 25-23, but Kuwait Club bounced back in the final session to clinch a memorable win. Cady Lalanne (208-C-1992, college: UMass) paced the winners with 25 points, 12 rebounds and two assists while Elijah Robinson (200-G/F-1995, college: Emmanuel, GA) top-scored for Manama with 23 points. The second game will be played on Monday at the Khalifa Sports City in Isa Town and Game 3, if necessary, will take place on May 22 in Kuwait City. Kuwait Club are the lone undefeated team in WASL, going through the group phase with six straight victories before sweeping Shabab Al Ahli 2-0 in the semi-finals. Manama played through the qualification to the semi-finals, beating Al Hilal in the semi-finals in a 2-0 sweep.
