Higher League Round 19: Kazygurt beats Aktobe in the most crucial game of the week - Mar 1, 2019

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

An exciting game was played in Aktobe. First ranked Kazygurt faced their biggest opponent Aktobe. Guests from Shymkent (14-5) defeated host Aktobe (12-6) 69-58. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Aktobe. Kazygurt have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 14-5 record. Aktobe at the other side keeps the second position with six games lost. Kazygurt are looking forward to face Irtysh (#3) in Pavlodar in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Aktobe will play on the road against Tigers Ast. in Astana and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.

Tigers Ast. lost eighth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 15 games lost. Bars will play against SDYUSH (#5) in Alma-Ata in the next round. Tigers Ast. will play at home against the league's second-placed Aktobe and hopes to get back on the winning track.

In the last game of round 19 SDYUSH was defeated by Irtysh in Pavlodar 81-72.

Irtysh - SDYUSH 81-72

There was no surprise in Pavlodar where 5th ranked SDYUSH (6-12) was defeated by third ranked Irtysh (10-8) 81-72. Irtysh maintains third place with 10-8 record having five points less than leader Kazygurt, which they share with Bars. Newly promoted SDYUSH keeps the fifth position with 12 games lost. Irtysh will play against league's leader Kazygurt in Shymkent in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. SDYUSH will play at home against Bars (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Defending champion BK Astana (National League) re-signed 22-year old international forward Askar Maidekin (203-97). He played there last season. But in two VTB United League games he averaged just 1.0ppg and 1.0apg. Maidekin's team won Kazakhstan Cup. The previous (17-18) season Maidekin played at Barsy Atyrau where in 31 National League games he had 5.1ppg and 2.7rpg (leader !!!). He played most recently at BK Astana in Kazakhstan National League. In 21 VTB United League games he averaged 11.3ppg, 3.0rpg, 2.2apg and 1.2spg last season.
