BC Astana claim D1 title - Apr 27, 2012

BC Astana - Barsy Atyrau 113:72

BC Astana celebrated the D1 trophy. They outgunned Barsy Atyrau for the third straight win and swept the championship series. Rawle Marshall (201-G-82, college: Oakland) led the winners scoring impressive 32 points.
BC Astana strongly entered the game. They quickly piled up a comfortable 10-point lead 23:13. BC Astana controlled the tempo in the second term. They finished the half up by 12 points 49:37. The tempo remained high in the second half. BC Astana dominated every facet of the encounter. They never allowed Barsy Atyrau to revive intrigue cruising to the victory at the end. Yargaliev provided 22 points for the winners. Goran Cakic added 12 points, while Jerry Johnson (183-G-82, agency: Beo Basket, college: Rider) notched 11 points for the champions.
The league named the Top players of the championship after the game.

BC Astana clinch Kazakh Cup title - Mar 23, 2012

BC Astana proved their dominance in the Kazakh basketball clinching the Cup title. The Kazakh powerhouse had little problems marching to the title. They celebrated five wins in as many games during the Cup Final Round in Almaty.
BC Astana opened the Final Round with a comfortable 110:69 win over Barsy. Six player scored in double digits as BC Astana cruised to the win. Jerry Johnson (183-G-82, agency: Beo Basket, college: Rider) scored 23 points, while Rustam Yargaliev (195-F/G-86) and Rawle Marshall (201-G-82, agency: Beo Basket, college: Oakland) added 16 points each for the winners. Mikhail Evstigneev (202-F/C-84) answered with 15 points for Barsy.
Next BC Astana took care of their cross-town rivals Astana Tigers 81:32. Goran Cakic (208-C/F-80, agency: Beo Basket) stepped up with 19 points and 11 rebounds to lead the effort. BC Astana built a 38:17 halftime lead and never looked back en route to the victory. Nikolay Bazhin answered with 12 points for the Tigers.
BC Astana held off Tobol 97:61 in the third game of the Final Round. This time Anton Ponomaryov (210-C/F-88, agency: Beo Basket) came up for Astana scoring 23 points. Rawle Marshall contributed 15 points in the winning case. Ismailov replied with 14 points for Tobol.
BC Astana finished the campaign with a 65:38 victory over BK Almaty. Anton Ponomaryov knocked down 14 points to lead the charge. Vsevolod Fadeikin (206-C-85) added 12 points in the winning case. Maksim Otbozin (211-C-80) nailed 8 points in the loss.


Tobol edge Barsy to clinch Silver medals at Kazakh Cup - Mar 24, 2012

Tobol finished in the second position at the Kazakh Cup. They defeated Barsy Atyrau 84:78 on the final day of the competition to clinch the second place. Barsy finished third at the tournament. BC Astana claimed the trophy as we reported earlier.
Tobol and Barsy came up with an exciting performance on the last day. The teams stayed close throughout the first frame as scoreboard read 17:17 after ten minutes. Tobol pulled ahead in the second quarter. The Kostanay team ensured a 42:34 halftime lead. Tobol poured in 27 points in the third term to clear off. They entered the final frame up by 13 points 69:56. Barsy went on a strong comeback rally but came up just short of victory at the end. Pavel Mikheev (200-F-83) stepped up with 29 points and 8 rebounds for Tobol. Vyacheslav Bogdanov (200-F-83) and Anton Kotenko (191-G/F-84) added 17 points each in the victory. Mikhail Evstigneev (202-F/C-84) responded with 22 points for Barsy. Sergei Kazantcev (212-C-84) had 16 points in the loss.
