Amman — The second game of the Jordan Basketball League finals between Al-Faisaly and Al-Ittihad Amman was abandoned following serious crowd disturbances and an on-court altercation involving players, prompting Al-Ittihad to withdraw in protest over refereeing decisions.
Al-Faisaly had won the opening game of the series 105–70, while Game 2 was halted early in the fourth quarter with Al-Ittihad Amman leading by 24 points (93–69) after a major scuffle broke out between players from both sides. Match Progress Al-Faisaly started strongly, taking a 26–21 lead at the end of the first quarter, with American player Daniel Hamilton particularly influential. Despite a strong response from Al-Ittihad Amman, who fielded a lineup including Freddy Ibrahim, Amin Abu Hawwas, and Sam Daniel, Al-Faisaly maintained control early on. However, Al-Ittihad improved significantly in the second quarter, capitalizing on Al-Faisaly’s individualistic play. A three-pointer from Daniel gave the defending champions their first lead at 34–32, before extending their advantage to 53–46 at halftime. In the third quarter, Al-Ittihad continued to dominate, stretching the lead to 89–69, as Al-Faisaly struggled to regain composure. Tensions escalated, with Bryan Halums being ejected after committing two technical fouls. Chaos in Final Quarter At the start of the fourth quarter, Freddy Ibrahim hit another three-pointer and appeared to provoke the Al-Faisaly bench. Moments later, sections of the crowd began throwing water bottles onto the court, leading Al-Ittihad players to head toward the locker room. A physical altercation then erupted on court involving Mohammad Shaher and Sam Daniel, forcing referees to suspend the game. Ejections and Withdrawal After both teams briefly returned to the court, officials issued multiple ejections: Al-Faisaly: Mohammad Shaher, Hussein Ababneh, and head coach Abdullah Abu Qoura Al-Ittihad Amman: Freddy Ibrahim, Sam Daniel, and lhrab Al-Zuhairi Al-Ittihad head coach Faisal Al-Nusour protested the decisions before ultimately withdrawing his team from the match. |
