Premier League Round 5 (Second Stage): Orthodox beat Al Riyadi in a derby game

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Amman: Orthodox (#1) and Al Riyadi (#3). Al Riyadi was crushed at home by 30 points 87-117 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Al Riyadi. They outrebounded Al Riyadi 53-34 including a 42-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Orthodox looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Freddy Ibrahim (190-1996, college: Tampa) who scored 37 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 7 assists. American point guard Darrin Dorsey (188-1987, college: DWU, agency: Diamond Sports) chipped in 21 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. Orthodox's coach Harry Savaya felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American swingman Brandon Spearman (191-1991, college: Hawaii) produced 45 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds for the hosts. Undefeated Orthodox (5-0) have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 5 victories in a row. Al Riyadi at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost. Orthodox's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Amman Al Ahli.

American forward Gerard Tarin (206-1996, college: Nova SE) orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!), 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Amin Abuhawwas contributed with 28 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Guyanese-American forward Kevin Mickle (201-1993, college: Ohio) answered with 22 points and 6 rebounds for Al Jubaiha. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Defending champion maintains second place with 3-2 record having just two points less than leader Orthodox. Al Jubaiha lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Al Ahli's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Amman to the arena Orthodox.



Al Ahli - Al Jubaiha 96-79

An exciting game was played in Amman. Second ranked Al Ahli faced 4th placed Al Jubaiha. Host Al Ahli (3-2) defeated guests from Al Jubaiha (0-5) 96-79. Al Ahli forced 21 Al Jubaiha turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists. American forward Gerard Tarin (206-1996, college: Nova SE) orchestrated the victory by scoring 34 points (!!!), 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Guyanese-American forward Kevin Mickle (201-1993, college: Ohio) answered with 22 points and 6 rebounds and Yousef Al-Awamleh added 11 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Al Jubaiha.
