Jordanian Premier League round 1 (Second Stage) best performance: Gerard Tarin- March 7, 2023
The 26-year old player had a double-double of 29 points and 16 rebounds, while his team outclassed, Second Stage bottom-ranked team Al Riyadi (#3, 0-1) with 30-point margin 116-86. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Thanks to this victory Al Ahli moved-up to the 1st position in Jordanian Premier League. But it's just the very beginning of the Second Stage and Al Ahli won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Tarin had a remarkable 68.4% from 2-point range. He turned to be Al Ahli's top player in his first season with the team. Former Nova Southeastern University star has very solid stats this year. Tarin is in league's top in points (3rd best: 23.9ppg), assists (9th best: 4.5apg) and averages impressive 1.3bpg and 57.7% FGP. Worth to mention Tarin played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball. The second best player in last round's games was young Guyanese Kevin Mickle (201-F-1993) of league's second-best Al Jubaiha. Mickle had a very good evening with 27 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Al Jubaiha lost that game 70-78 to Orthodox (1-0). The Second Stage is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Mickle is a newcomer at Al Jubaiha, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 20.6ppg (#6). He also registered 11.8 boards per game. Third on the list of top players last round was another Al Ahli's star - American guard Amin Abuhawwas (190-G-1994). Abuhawwas scored 29 points. He was another key player of Al Ahli, helping his team with a 116-86 easy win against #3 ranked Al Riyadi in a game of the week. Al Ahli has a very good start of the Second Stage. But there was just one game played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Abuhawwas also has a very good start of the Second Stage with very strong stats. Abuhawwas has a great season in Jordan. After only 8 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 26.9ppg (2nd best) and assists with 6.3apg (2nd best). He also has 2.8spg, FGP: 58.6% and 3PT: 47.2%. Amin Abuhawwas has also Jordanian passport and can play in the league with a status of domestic player. Abuhawwas attended one of camps at Eurobasket Summer League on his way to pro basketball. Other top performing players last week: 4. Zane Najdawi (201-F-1996) of Al Ahli - 17 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists 5. Caden Al-Najdawi (203-F-1999) of Orthodox - 19 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists 6. Brandon Spearman (191-G/F-1991) of Al Riyadi - 27 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists 7. Ahmad Alhamarsheh (197-F-1987) of Orthodox - 7 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists 8. Sami Bzai (190-G-1994) of Al Ahli - 18 points, 3 rebounds and 7 assists 9. Darrin Dorsey (188-PG-1987) of Orthodox - 15 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists 10. Khaled Abuaboud (202-PF-1997) of Orthodox - 9 points and 8 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
