Premier League Round 7: Orthodox beat Al Riyadi by three after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 7 in the Premier League took place in Amman. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of 3rd placed Al Riyadi (3-3) to leader Orthodox (6-0) 77-74 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Al Riyadi. Orthodox forced 21 Al Riyadi turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of American point guard Darrin Dorsey (188-1987, college: DWU) who helped to win the game recording 19 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Ahmad Alhamarsheh (197-1987) contributed with 14 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. The former international forward Ahmad Obeid (197-1990) answered with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists for Al Riyadi. Undefeated Orthodox have an impressive series of six victories in a row. They maintain first place with 6-0 record. Al Riyadi at the other side keeps the third position with three games lost.
Bottom-ranked Al Ashrafiyah is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their seventh consecutive match to second ranked Al Ahli (6-1) 93-79. It was a great evening for the former international guard Sami Bzai (190-1994, college: SE Oklahoma) who led his team to a victory scoring 37 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. Zane Najdawi helped adding 23 points and 11 rebounds. At the losing side American guard Terrence Joyner (190-1988, college: MVSU) responded with 35 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists. Al Ashrafiyah's coach rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Al Ahli. Defending champion maintains second place with 6-1 record having just one point less than leader Orthodox. Al Ashrafiyah lost their seventh game in a row. They still close the standings with seven games lost.
The game between fourth ranked Al Jubaiha (3-4) and 5th ranked Kofer Yoba (2-5) in Al Jubaiha on Sunday ended with biggest points difference. Al Jubaiha beat guests from Irbid 80-64. It was a quality performance for Kevin Mickle who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 21 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. DeCardo Day came up with 26 points and 6 rebounds for Kofer Yoba in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Al Jubaiha maintains fourth place with 3-4 record. Loser Kofer Yoba keeps the fifth position with five games lost.



Al Ashrafiyah - Al Ahli 79-93

Bottom-ranked Al Ashrafiyah is still unable to win any game. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. Al Ahli forced 24 Al Ashrafiyah turnovers and had a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international forward Zane Najdawi (201-1996, college: Citadel) helped adding 23 points and 11 rebounds. Bzai is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Al Ahli players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Terrence Joyner (190-1988, college: MVSU) responded with 35 points (!!!), 5 rebounds and 4 assists and Jalal Al Bustami scored 9 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists.
