Kofer Yoba - Orthodox 62-92 An exciting game was played in Irbid. Orthodox faced Kofer Yoba. Guests from Amman (3-0) smashed host Kofer Yoba (1-2) 92-62. Orthodox forced 21 Kofer Yoba turnovers and outrebounded them 46-33 including 33 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. It was a great evening for the former international guard Freddy Ibrahim (190-1996, college: Tampa) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 11 assists and 5 steals. The former international forward Ahmad Alhamarsheh (197-1987) helped adding 21 points and 6 rebounds. Five Orthodox players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was Ghazi Al-Salah (-2000) with 14 points and 7 rebounds and American guard DeCardo Day (196-1998, college: Alabama St.) scored 13 points. Kofer Yoba's coach Ibrahim Abu Asous gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Orthodox's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Amman Al Ahli. Host Al Jubaiha was defeated by Al Riyadi in Al Jubaiha 78-66. Al Riyadi players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists. It was a good game for the former international center Yousef Abuwazaneh (201-1993) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 16 rebounds. The former international forward Ahmad Obeid (197-1990) contributed with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Four Al Riyadi players scored in double figures. Guyanese-American forward Kevin Mickle (201-1993, college: Ohio) answered with a double-double by scoring 15 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and Yousef Al-Awamleh added 12 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Al Jubaiha. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Al Riyadi will play against Kofer Yoba (#5) in Irbid in the next round. Al Jubaiha will play against Al Ashrafiyah to get more than just one victory in their record. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 40 assists comparing to just 21 passes made by Al Ashrafiyah's players. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Al Ahli made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Amin Abuhawwas (190-1994, college: Mars Hill) who scored 40 points (!!!), 6 assists and 4 steals. The former international guard Sami Bzai (190-1994, college: SE Oklahoma) chipped in 24 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. Abuhawwas is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Al Ahli players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Terrence Joyner (190-1988, college: MVSU) who recorded 26 points and Mohammad Al Buheiri added 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Al Ashrafiyah will play next round against strong Al Jubaiha trying to get back on the winning streak. Al Ahli will try to continue on its current victory against Orthodox. It will be extra interesting game as Orthodox is their local rival from Amman.
